View Full Version : Mental Ray FG problem
Morguez 06-16-2005, 07:23 AM I made some render tests on my new model but as you can see in the first image wheels don't touch the ground.
In the second image I lowered the min radius, wheels are on the ground but I can't get rid of those artifacts.
I tried to pump up samples but nothing happened.
Any idea?
Thanks
Marco

Have you tried changing your FG radius settings?
If you're using 3dsmax have look at the samples on http://www.jeffpatton.net/ they're very helpful for understanding Mental Ray.
Also the Mental Ray shader discussion is joly useful:

It just might be a case of rebuilding the FG calculation - I've found this kind of artifacts if I have moved the model and used the previously saved FG calc.
I'm no expert by any means - you may well have tried that already, and don't know what to suggest if that's not it.

Thank you Frog and Src.
I read jeff patton's site, I didn't move the scene but the problem remains the same
Anyway thx again :)
Those artifacts are definitely related to the Final Gathering min and max radius settings. I sometimes see them and the only way to get rid of them is to reduce the radius by quite a lot. Unfortunately this makes render times go up.
