These are the very first renders from a short film that will be finished soon, hopefully. If anybody is interested in the making-of, I could try to post the progress here, along with some animations. Also, I would be grateful for any comments.

hi pixeldoggy and welcome on board
The stills look nice - a little on the dark side though. The character reminds me a lot of the Sven Hauth´s ratlike biped from an older tutorial (How to create a walkcycle in XL 6, I think?!!) Happen to know that one? Anyway, looks great so far and i look forward to animations. Which version of Cinema do you use? Are you a lucky early bird? - so that we can expect some use of soft ik?!

*lol* yes, I happen to know that tutorial. Glad to hear it's still popular, although getting a bit outdated. And yes, I was one of the lucky early birds, but when I got it, the animation for this project was about 90% done, and I didn't feel confident to convert all my rigs to SoftIK. I did use the new PoseMorph for aniamting the fingers, but it's mostly a version 6 project (I skipped version 7). I'll try to post some animations soon.

looks good....bit on the dark side...but i guess thats the idea...it is after all in an alley by the looks of it. I would certainly appreciate any info you can provide about the making-of etc....it would also help if you let us know about the style required...then you know if your crit etc is off the mark or not...or may be helpful...if this makes sense.

ps. I love mr rat-thingy....is he house trained...or feral!!!

you're right, it's a bit on the dark side, more than it is supposed to be. I'm in the middle of tweaking the lighting. And no, he's not house-trained. There are 2 more characters in the movie- they are.

More soon...

First part of animation:

The high contrast is caused by the compression.

Those are great!!!!!! I love your style of animation.

The little stuff like the fishy blinking... that rules!

What's the story line?

Thanks, I'm really glad the fish blink didn't go unnoticed, I had a few doubts that it would be too subtle.
Storyline is that he uses the "Love Spray" on another character (who will enter the scene soon) who then falls in love with a.. well, you will see when I post the next parts ;-)

like the mov very nice.....

only thing i don't like is the spray from the can....two chunky. Then again if you intend to custard pie splat style on his face it maybe more appropriate..other than that i looks goodie....and sounds like you have some goodie plans for it in the pipeline. look forward to seeing some more. Dunno if you fixed the lighting but it doesn't seem as dark...maybe its just a mac/pc thing? dunno anywayz keep postin' cos its getting interesting.....i like the fact he's not house trained...cos he looks like he could be a bit on the mean side....probably that feral nature coming out after a dose of "Ratvin Klein's All New Spray-Love in a can"....

well, it's a bunch of hearts coming out of the can, and they have to be recognizable as hearts, which will be important for the story later on. And yes, the lighting has been adjusted and the rat will do something very mean with the can - true to it's nature ;-)

this is turning out to look very slick bud.
i like the pink tail.

about that heart spray....i didn't realise that was what was happening there....but then again i did watch the movie in a small window so probably missed detail....but i was thinking....how about the spray coming out as spray and the end result is the rat-ster getting hit smack in the head with lovin' resulting in him seeing stars as in a cartoon but instead stars, hearts spinning around his head. Just a thought or the spray could form lips and give him a kiss resulting in hearts spinning making him dizzy with lovin' hopefully you get the idea....then you haven't got the hearts being so subtle. Also his whole body could go rigid including tail....him sort of rock on the spot. dunno just a thought...more Umphhhhhhh in the love drug....than casual cool ratster...but mybe out of style so i'll leave it to ya and wait for the next installment.
having fun watching what youre coming up with though.

Looking good!

The tail is moving kind of strangely though. You should try a more regular movement for the tail

hey flingster, you pretty much guessed what's coming up. the story and animation have been finished for a while, and it actually does include lovedizzyness and spinning hearts (the array object was a big help here) - just not on Mr. evilrat but on the second character that will enter the scene soon. And there will be more inbetween shots like a closeup of the can to see what's in it. And I'll reconsider the tail movement.
Thanks for the comments, guys.
