very cool man..I really dig your style:p

How large and at what res do you work when painting these things?

most of it was done at about 1300 pixels tall, 150 dpi, then I changed it to 300dpi and double the pixel size to do the finished detail work. Why do I do this ? I don't know for sure?

Odd way of working there Sleepless, don't you get some funny relics from the resampling? I usually start off much bigger than I intend the end product to be.
Still, nice painting, my advice would be to try to differentiate the two characters a little more by altering their colour palette slightly, maybe spruce up the robot with a few painted markings. I'd also think a little more about the joints of the robot and their practicality, as well as how it's movement would be severly impaired by those tapered legs.
Still these suggestions are pointing you in the way of logic and realism, whereas I think your work is far more successful when you bend the rules.

hey, I like this one!

nice choice of color...very grim and drity looking. I think thge robot's weapon looks a little unweildy though, and sort of off-balance if you know what I mean. Also the dude's shield seems a bit oddly placed...it seems to want to be higher up on his arm. Anyways, good stuff, you are consistently turning out cool art!

cheers,

-D

Another cool painting!
The only crit I can think of is that perhaps the robots "place" in the painting could be accentuated by slightly dulling the colors on the guy. The robot looks like he's supposed to be in the foreground and the man looks like he is supposed to be further back, but they are about the same intensity as far as color. It's probably a nitpicky suggestion...but, I hope it helps.
:D
Can't wait to see the next one!

Very cool Sleepless. I love how unique your style is. So many here, including myself, are having trouble bringing the uniqueness out. You're mastering it!
Keep it coming man.

btw though, I'm not sure how I feel about the white border, I think it steals from the image.

Much to my surprise, this pic was up in the banner when I logged on tonight. I spent some time off and on Saturday making some minor adjustments (Wildsheepchase-thx) so I replaced the post with the final the touched up one. I could've kept noodling but it was time to move on. Over 12 hrs of painting total.

Puddlefish- I don't know what res I should paint at for the finish so I just work at 300 or 355 dpi. I start roughing in at low res because it seems to take the pressure of me mentally (???) Some people work at much higher dpi so I hear. I've got a gig of ram and when experimenting the brushes seems to slow down a lot at 1000dpi. Any info from others concerning res?

Blackarts- I like muddy colors....went with brown instead of green this time, LOL. Your last pic inspired me to try this one. Yes the bot has some problems. It evolved from a scribbles of shapes, need to study mechs in the future.
Gamoron- the white border only shows up on this grey backgound hehe. I use rough edges lots on my commercial work, thought I would try it on this.
PotatoHead - thx. but you've gone too far.
xilica,TRi-14,digitalBIZ- I appreciate the looks and comments.

I was just wondering about the techniques you peepz used to paint those stuff. I know most people use Photoshop and Painter as i do use PS too... but what i'd like to know is whether you all use the mouse or have those Wacom Pen mouses? :)
