Expanding my reel, doing a few walk cycles. Any thoughts on this one? Any ideas to make it more "sneaky"? Anything standing out as irritating?

Thanks,
Jim

The way that he leans waaay back when he takes a step looks very strange. Seems like he should be leaning down more if he's trying to be sneaky.
That's the only thing that really stood out, though.

when he leans back normally one would balance that weight shift by leaning the head forward.. and have u tried exaggerating the reach of the leg?

Good call. And nope, I haven't tried stretching the legs, I'll give that a try, see if it works with this rig.

There are a couple of small things that are affecting the overall feel of the piece. It does look like he's sneaking, but some tweaking can pull it together better.

Firstly his left foot swivels before the right foot actually touches the ground. For it to work it would need to happen as the foot touches down, but I would leave the foot swivel out altogether.

Secondly it feels like the foot needs to continue to push through the toes as it steps (talking of both feet here). As the foot presses off the toes should follow through and the foot should end up more pointed and trailing. What you have at the moment would work if he is stepping over something but I assume he isn't.

Thirdly I think his head needs a bit of suspension. It's angle should be less affected by the position of his body. Try to keep the head more level. It's an obvious thing in real life, we have a natural tendency to keep the head as level as possible.

But, you know, it's difficult giving advice on something like this when you have in your head the mood and character of what you're animating. Some things may work for what you're trying to achieve, but they might not work for something else. If you would like more advice then perhaps tell us a little bit more about what's going on and the precise feel you're trying to achieve.

Good luck!

I'm working really roughly from a cycle in the Animators Survival Kit, of a goose sneaking. I guess all I'm really going for is a cartoony "LOOK, he thinks he's sneeky!" walk... I supose I should probably think into it a bit more, would probably help me.

Thanks so much for all of the feedback, all good stuff.

Okay, I've updated that movie... fixed the feet a bit. Furthermore, I've made too versions, one more subdued, and one where he actually leans farther back. Each has a bit of charm, the far lean adds a bit of trepidation. What do you guys think? Lotsa lean, not so much?

I haven't fixed the head yet, that'll come when the rest is just about right. Ditto on the the little click in the shoulder that I'm noticing now that the lean is exagerated.

I think I'm calling it done, with this last little bit:

form what i can see he need to be leaning further forward an much more backward , all the movements arent exagerated enough , the pace is good but its still not reading like a sneak

I'd say it's working fine, but he should look left and right as he walks.
