View Full Version : Running Painter 5 on Windows XP?
windhoverhill 06-13-2005, 08:13 PM I recently got a new computer with Windows XP Professional. I have been running Painter 5 on my old computer with Windows 95. Can I run it on Windows XP or do I have to upgrade?
Also, my new computer has 1 GB of memory, and I read something this morning about changing some setting so Painter didn't know you had all that memory.
I'd appreciate any help. I will upgrade if I have to, but don't want to.
Thanks!

This is Jinny's word of wisdom regarding similar question from another forum:
Hi R.R.,
I'm running Painter 5.0.3 on the following system with no problems:
Pentium 4
2.53 GHz
512 MB RAM
120 GB hard drive with about 75% free space
WinXP Home SP2
Before adjusting your virtual memory, try what I did:
=95 Highlight the Painter5.5.exe file, right click and choose Properties.
=95 Click the Compatibility tab, check the box that says "Run this progra=
m=20
in compatibility mode for:" and choose Windows 98/Windows ME from the=20
drop down list.
=95 Click the OK button.
=95 It might help to reboot though I don't know that's necessary.
=95 Launch Painter 5.5.
Good luck,
Jinny Brown

Judi,
Since you have more RAM than I do:
If what nafa quoted doesn't work, post your question on the Corel Painter newsgroups. Someone there should be able to tell you how to adjust your Virtual Memory to allow Painter 5 to run on your system.
