Is it possible to have a layer mask for a layer style seperate to a mask applied to the actual layer? I want to be able to control the effect of the layer style independantly to the layer itself. The options in advanced layer blending dont really help here. Any ideas? Using PS7

Is possible in CS by just adding a mask. Is that not possible in PS7? To my knowledge, although I have to admit, it has been a while since I used PS7, it was possible in PS7 too, unless I misunderstood you.

One option would be to split your effects into their own layers by selecting the layer with the effects on it, then go to the layer menu and choose Layer Style/Create Layers. This will put your effects on their own seperate layers that you can mask as you like. The above method of doing this is for CS2, I think it's the same for v.7
