View Full Version : WIP Rhino Comp 1-Damsel
Damsel 06-13-2005, 01:14 PM Not great...still learning and I would like to add more details. Possibly a leather belt and scabbard also. :-) Modeled in Rhino, textured and rendered in Cinema 4D.

nice image damsel, its a rather simple model but very clean and it looks great in your render. Have you prepared this for this competition or had you done this some time ago? Either way you can still enter it, just not the C4D render - but i wont go into that im sure uve read the rules.
was it your intention to beval the blade intowards the hand guard? Im not a blacksmith but im sure that would weaken a sword. Maybe you could do somethign with the sphere on the handle of the sword, it looks very roman so i would probably go nick something from the Gladiator like a lion and attempt to engrave that in or have it bumped off the blade. Something to add a few more details.
i dont know a few thoughts... what did you have in mind?
[edt] i dont know if you want the whole authentic roman sword but you should check out http://www.iloveswords.com/roman.html
so if you over the roman thing and you want to model somethign else thats old... check out http://www.medievalswordsnmore.com
if has some great images that i now really want to change my model to

looking very good indeed...would recommend moving the blade further into the quillion (guard), which would make it seem a more sturdy weapon.
That render is superb! very nice indeed!
and hey...sometimes simple is better;....a perfect simple will out-do an ok difficult any day in my books!

Although I'm not a big advocator of all this blade stuff, I still am in these forums too.
I somewhat agree with moving the blade back.
I think the problem is that you chamferred the back portion of the blade. For added realism think of how the object would be made. The metal of the blade would actually extend way into the handle. It isn't sharp there. That connection is the most important part of the object as far as useability. You would want to go and pull out your sword just to have the handle break off and die. That would be embarrassing. I don't know for positive, but I don't think any swords have sharpened the rear part of the blade where they wouldn't cut anything.
The idea is actually to get maximum cutting power without losing strength of the metal.

agreed totally
"simplicty is the finest for of excellence"-probably some old guy  but it was said.
im just worried that simple will just look plain when its rendered in Rhino... i dont have to much faith in it.
But i guess we should wait for damsels reply

Thank you for the comments. :-) I see what you mean about the blade. I will work on that. No, this is a new model. I just rendered it in C4D to show you. I will render in Rhino later on. I like the idea of replacing the ball on the end of the handle with something more fitting. Thanks for all of the input and ideas! And no....I don't want my sword breaking in battle. That could get messy. LOL

It does look good though, I can't really say anything cause everyone else is way better than I am right now.
