View Full Version : Shag:Fur
three 10-17-2002, 07:21 PM I've got this problem [see attachment further down]. I don't know what's up with that. Seems strange that the fur just cuts off or don't show at all in some places.
And I can't seem to be able to use Shag:Fur and Shag:Hair installed at the same time, do any of you gurus know why?
Take Care dudes, and have one on me.

Shag is really heavily dependent on scene scale for some odd reason, so that may explain why you can see the mesh pattern in the fur (I've only seen that effect when trying to create grass on a huge low-division plane object).
The completely bald patches occur when the emitter face is perpendicular to the camera. You are effectively looking end-on at the hair strands, and the effct is that they become invisible (even if they are set to a high thickness). The only way around it is to make sure the fur doesn't come straight out of the emitter at right-angles. Even a little bit of randomisation or bending and leaning should fix it.
No idea why you can't use Hair and Fur at the same time though, you should be able to. I'd reinstall, if that doesn't work call Digimation (their tech-help is actually pretty good).

Thanks dude :)
I'll try out all those tips. Still, I can't figure out why the hair just cuts of. If you look along his back you see the hair just end.
But I'll see what I can do from those tips :)
I've figured out the problem why I can't have both hair and fur installed at the same time, somehow the drivers collide, I've fixed it and now it works perfectly.
Thanks again.

The reason the hair stops like that on his back is that you have rendered him sitting on a plane with a Matte/Shadow material, and your material doesn't have the "Apply Atmosphere" box ticked (or you have the wrong sub-option selected, I think it should be set to "At Object Depth", but I couldn't swear to it).

swweeeet :D
i think i love you dude :p you've helped me with one of the most irritating things i've ever encountered with 3dsmax. [except from lack of inspiration sometimes].
:applause:
Happy happy.
