I started this animation a while ago as a test for the character rig and GUI, however it was a fun one to animate so I've finished it up and rendered it for crits and comments. All comments welcome;

Thats one scary elf lol The animation looks great to me, using the camera for the girls POV works really well, especially when he grabs for it at the end, and I like the way he jumps about the scene. My only suggestion is can you add a greater sense of weight to the opening of the chest lid? It looks a little light at the moment.

Hi,

I have a few suggestions to think about on this animation. It looks good by the way, but there are some things can should be changed to raise the quality a little more.

1: The first jump into the scene seems a bit wierd. First suggestion is that this a perfect opportunity to add some squash and stretch to him. He appears really stiff. Second is the timing seems a little bit on the slow side which makes him weightless. The other is on the way down he should really strech out some more. He croutches a little early before hitting floor. I like how you offsetted the feet which is good, but change some things with the hands to make them seem less symetrical. Also the hands I think should have a little more thrust in the early stage of the jump he doesn't raise his hands till almost midway going up. I think with a little tweaking, it could look really good. keep it up

2: the butt stratch, funny, good idea to add some movement when he is looking around, but (hahaha) I think you can beef up that action with the rest of his body and add some more finger flexibility, which brings me to my next crit -

3: I don't know your rig, but I would try to move the hands a little more at the wrist and move the fingers around, they are almost static in that cup position.

4: the jump up to the rafters, better, I like the timing better - but on the leap down it feels that he is floating again and from that distance to jump to seems a little strange. I would have him jump down quicker and the camera looses sight of him, adding some suprise for when she just pops up next the boxes and reaches. Just some thought.

5: just some general crit, a lot of his posing is in the crouch type position which shows he is in a "search" but have him change it up a little, have him stand up (like at the butt stratch) and "think." His hands get a little boring just aways staying out to his sides like that, makes him a less real.

I do like the camera movement, it does seems like girls pov. If anything, have it maybe duck completely behind a box rather than always just pointed at the elf. Just some food for thought ;-)

Overall if this was a just a rigging test then I know you probably didn't spend a lot of time animation polishing it, but those are just some thoughts.

Not bad, keep up the good work!

Best of luck,
Scott

I just put up a new version of this animation. It's only a playblast this time, but I wanted some feed back before I clicked render.

I'm glad you like it so far Vahn.

I just put up a new version, unfortunatly I havn't had much time to work on it, but that means my computer has been sat around with nothing to do, so I hit render for this test. As well as tweaking the animation, I also changed his skin shader to try and get a better looking skin.
