hey guys pretty excited to be in FXWARS.
this is my first time to participate in any challenges.
it would be definately a great leaning curve for me.
haven't thought much yet,
would be showing a car in insane speed, got one of its rear tyre
pierced by some sharp nail or something, looses its control
drifts and crashes with something or may be crushed by a train.
will refine it later.
i'll be posting some tomorrow, wanna do some tests...
never worked with reactor or any dynamics, lets see if i can make it.
seeing the stuff by blasphemy and roux, only god saves me. pretty amazing work.
and all those scientific physics gotta try to implement them too, pretty gr8 info
on these threads.
letz see how far do i go.................

i've entered too late, hope i finish the challenge.
haven't used reactor much.
the tips & tricks thread contains really good information.
got some tests but didn't quite got expected results.
will play more with reactor.
previously i used toycar, but didn't quite got o/p.
so i manually rigged it and again got some weird solutions.
i do have uncompleted model of 350z which was started long time back,
but never completed it.
now its the time to complete it for crashing some metal.
wanted to use the free 3d models but they all are low res, and don't have
req. detail bc they are FREE.
so will be modelling the accessories and other stuff, it would be a good
practice for a newbee..
deformation will be added later manually after i get the simulation solutions.
wanted to start posting, heres my first o/p its creepy..testing....
right now don't know the environment and the set. there are many highway sequences
in fxwars here,
so i don't want to repeat it.but other than highways the only place to show high
speeds are race tracks or the rally tracks.
in race tracks it would be awk to show only one or two cars, but i don't think i would
like to put more cars in it, it would be time consuming to animate all.
so going towards rally tracks, they would take even more time, the forests and other stuffs,
the desert env. would be easy but the car would not take much damage in there.
so much confused where to plot the seq. or lastly may go with the freeways.......
will be updating tomorrow...........
well try to composite with live action.it will be cool to show the crash.

thanx again jigu,
did thought of live action but my cam is not with me,
and i'll be not having it for couple of weeks (as usual when i need it the most i don't have it.)
i'll see if i can borrow frm my friend, if that goes right, i would be really gr8.
i don't think reactor getz close results, so i may use custom rigs to get it right.
and i think car would be needing a lot of accesories with some complex constraints.
letz see how does this goes.

did'nt quite came to terms with the environment.
worked an hour on city layout.still don't have any idea how am i
going to crash the car.
playing with reactor.then i also have to test particle systems
which i never used much, the pflows.
its really very tough to show each part of the car crashing.
i may have to detach and individually animate each part of the frontal
side of the car.after getting the seqence and story right had
to test the simulations.
did tried different types of riggs, but not quite worked.
and i don't want to go with cheats and keyframe animation.
gotta work on it.

played for some time with reactor.
used reactor cloth to simulate the deformation.
heres what i got...... the particles are only for testing.
and the crash is not the intended one, just wanted to
see how it works.

I was actually thinking about doing a windup toy car in a kid's room. Alas I don't have the time to figure out the kinetics and I don't have the machine to render the kind of animation I'd like.

NICE JOB! Cool bits and pieces, nice reaction between objects.
anirudha i think u need to work on particle.i can see that u rn;t using particle objects for particles.i can see that those particles arn't done with any particles system.it;s hand animated.use pflow to break the pieces properly.
well crash looks good.
keep it up man!!!
and yaar post rendered images thus u can get idea clearly.and can know what u can do next to ur WIP?
i m sure u can do best.

thanx darwin..i still have to work more
on the crash because some things a flying around unrealistically.
and hey jigu thanx again...for ur belief.
well as for the particles those were just testing purpose,
they were added for references. it was generated using parray
with cars instanced geometry. the particles doesn't look of the
car because most of the real crash videos i've seen don't have huge
bits and pieces of the car, they are mostly of the glass,accessories and other stuffs.
and as i told this is not the intended crash, the one which is i'm planning is lot different.
as u know i'm really stuck up with the environment. still i'm not getting any geniune
idea of environment.so i can't post rendered images as they don't exist.
7 days remaining and don't have anything in place.
currently working on the details of the car.i'm banking on 350z and merc slk both modelled
today i'll be finalising the shot and then planing a pipeline,
and start workin on it as soon as possible.
i'm going to work now.......

i'm scared that i may not finish my entry in this comp.
because i don't have much time, i've entered very late into the comp.
and as per my condition i don't think i'll be finishing it in time.
right now i've not even started on the set modelling, i've just tested some crashes
and modelled the cars.
i did modelled 350z sometime ago but didn't finished it, and now i've modelled
mercedez slk, which doesn't look much fine.
here r the pics of those cars.
compared to the free model of 350z my 350z doesn't looks good.
and also i would like to know does the merc slk looks good for the crash.
here it is...with other models.
i'm currently working on a tunnel setup where i would do the crash sequence.
it's just been started...........
some of the entries are on the verge of completion and i'm lagging much behind.
hope to atleast complete the challenge on time...
so i'll be working more on crash than the environment setup and other stuff.
i need some help regarding modelling, i've modelled the car using poly, but now i also want to show the backface of the car which is probably invisible....
is there some technique with which the backface of the surface of the car can be generated
right now i cloning the selected surfaces using extrude and then applying normal i again adjust the extruded face to get proper backfaqce. but its too time consuming and also
increases the polys.
plz i urgently need help on this issue.
lol.......well assign material to the car.in material editor, whatever material u assigned to the car. just turnon "2-sided".thus when u render the car u can see backface of car also.it's very easy.

but i think i've not explained my prob,
i want to model the backface of my car for interiors,
the 3 sided done't show the width too.........
so is there any faster method to get the backface up
so i don't need to model and trace it again........

finally i decided to go with live footage.
today i shot some clips.......on the outskirts of our town....where there's no traffic at all.
and tried to composite them, but the camera seems too shaky,
applied stabilizers in combustion but didn't got good results.
since the footage has lot of movements and speed, it seems impossible
to camera track the clip
heres some compositing tests.........badly hand tracked
(posting such bad wips bc its in the rules of the competition)
i just have 3-4 days to complete the work,
don't know how i'm going to complete the work
added to this i lost some measurements of the crash site.........
and how can i post the work for critiques in so little time, without crits i myself can't figure out flaws in dynamics and other things....:sad:
for now i'm concentrating on crash rather than camera tracking.
it would take me days to track the camera right......
many faults..............it would become a lot creepy.
hope to atleast complete the work at hand, and i don't think i might
have time to add sound to the o/p.:scream:
i think u need to work on lighting.camera tracking looks good.but lighting makes so unreal scene.we can see that car is CG.everything else is good.if u don't know how make lighting rig to fake GI.try to use E-light script available at scriptspot.com. i can make lighting rig using direct light.if u want my help buzz me.

yes u r right the car looks fake.....
i've formed a lightning rig, but haven't used it since the render
times are getting high so i've rendered with normal sunlight for testing
since still too much of tracking is left and also i've mistracked
some measurements for final crash.........man i'm gonna suck
its too tedious to manually get the camera right,
somehow i've managed to stabilize the video but its still bit jittery,
that drags the object unrealistically.
here are a composite test and the setup.....the 3d objects are made transparent
the plot is of the car crashing over a bridge...
and this is the original shot.....
heres a test
wel after applying reactor, the car is not gaining enough speed as i got
in my tests.....also increased the initial velocities but no the same accl.
gotta work on it,
if the camera still does not gets right i'll be shifting to cg environment, which will
be a tunnel crash shot .....
and right now i'm not getting any time to work bc my server project work is also
hope to complete the competition.........

and for now i going to basics again :wise: ,
the captured videos are to jittery and i don't have time to go
back on location to shoot them again..the weather too is not
allowing me to reshoot them bc its raining and the captured videos
are in sunlight.......:scream:

i don't think i might finish the challenge because i'm not at all getting
the expected o/p. nothing is getting right...........my college reopening
date is also near.:sad:
the footage is too noisy so its becoming very difficult to track it up.....
but it was a great learning curve till now to work for this challenge
and i got to witness wips of some awesome and professional stuffs.:applause:
looking forward to next challenge if i get time from my academics.

today i've modelled the tunnel and and other setup.
changed my plan now i'm going for cg rather than
i'll be crashing the car into tunnel system which i'll be modelling
today and other setup too...
and also abt my prob of backface modelling, i've got
the solution to it, the shell modifier creates the backface with extra
geometry planes with adjutable width.........going back to basics took
some time but it did helped||||||||

still have to work a lot on smooth motion of car and
the suspension system..
due to low poly surface i think the suspensions are not working
due to interior environment i'm having a tough time with
lighting the scene......which is affecting the textures too
i'll start rendering tomorrow.....

Metaltwister, I think you were posting when we were all busy trying to finish our entries.
When considering how long you actually had from the time you started, I thought your entry was excellent. The lighting and rendering obviously did'nt get too much attention but the animation and the concept was pretty cool. When I saw it, I thought "why didn't I try that".
Look forward to seing more in future challenges.

and changed my plans almost three times from
live action to others.
