here is a char im working on, its a Balrog from Tolkiens fantasy world, im basing its design partly on the movie balrog but not entirely, hope to receive some C&C fom u guys:

Hi Rage 288, I think your model is on the way, to that stage I would point out two things which aren't right to me, though your mesh is nicely detailed (like the jaw for instance) head is too flat (we still see the box in this head, if you see what I mean), try to move top of the head backwards a little bit, that will sure give him a more ferocious look, the jaw will then be a bit forwards. Second thing is add more curvy surfaces all over your model, especially between the nostrils and the ckeeks, it is a skull not a box;) . But then again it's my opinion, I'm no expert.
keep it up, it should be damn good in a few more hours...

thanks man! ill keep that in mind next time i lay my hands on him. i also need to tweak the horns a bit, maybe re do them with more bumps in the parte they bend, so that the bumps look more regular...like the horns on a goat..

hehey! Im back again!
here is an update on my balrog crap
now im having trouble with his ass-tail, please help!

here is a wire where u see the problem i have wioth his tail, its that shitty quad poly, when the edgeloop turns, it makes his ass look boxy (i know the tail should be a continuation of the spline, ill fix that soon)

I think the tail should come more from the tail bone as the tail is an extention of the spine, right now it's blocking his poop shoot.
Just a thought. I like the looks of this though, keep it up.

Cool! much better than mine as far as the mouth accuracy! I have to echo the statements about the tail and the shape of the face. If you shift the horns back (as the ones in the film are) that should help solve your problem (speaking of which, did you intend to keep them that long?). I'd like to see a little more muscle tone in the thighs too but that's a personal preference. Great work all around!

Great work rage,

I agree with Teyon, I think the legs should be more defined. I like what you've done with the back of the lower leg but at the moment the upper leg and tail is too smooth.

not bad but i have one crit about the tail. You see the tail is a continuation of the spline and you tail looks kind wierd

Here is an update for the body!
i added some musculature on the legs, redid the part where the legs join the body and made him boxy butcheeks (as in my ref-pics...) I also meda the legs longer and the waist thinner.

I am so looking foward to seeing the finished render. The head of the balrog is looking excellent. The modelling its great, far better than anything I can do (I am only a beginner so I am not in the place to judge :P )

If the modelling is this good so far then I cant wait to see the textures being added and other details like the mane of flame and things like that.

I have worked 4 hours on his arms and doesnt seem to get it quite like i want it to be...but...well...maybe the nex time ill get it...please say what u think...the showing bones on the elbow are giving me a headache....well, see it for yourself...

I realy like the front-head and horns. But i think something wrong with jaw and body. Looks like a predator head merged with a t-rex body. And please don't tell these are ears under the horns.

its not a merged predator and a t-rex body, to begin with, t-rexes have pronounced and fatty bellys, and very small unusable tiny arms...maybe the legs are a bit lkike the ones from a t-rex...
and yes those are ears, but they are rough, that means they still need some heavy work, so does the jaw and the mouth interior, and the chest and the knees and of course the back and the arms...its a WIP remember? hehe

Your Balrog is definatly getting shape and i can't wait to see it finished. Still you need to do a lot of work on the moddeling i think. Finer details and stuff, but i know for sure that you are the right guy to do it.

i made his rough tail (very rough) and tweaked here and there, the arms seems to be done (im quiting on tweaking them yjey where making my insane) and i also started his "wing shoulders" still very rough...i used all the time to prepare the geometry for that...but i forgot the wire....:D

oh yes, and IM AWARE OF THE BOSYNESS ON THE BACK, IT WILL BE FIXED! :D

comments and crits are welcome and needed, now begins one of the parts i was waiting for a long time.......

...his wings...hehe ;)

Great work so far. I also cant wait to see it all finished. One hint maybe...check to basic shape of the tail. The Balrog has a thicker "tail-end".

her is a little update on the Balrog...
i have revamped the whole back and added the wing shoulders and roughtened arms...remember its just rough geometry, so please leave critisism like "those "wingarms" look too flat" or similar by side :D :D

NOTE: the new geometry is detached from the whole body cause im modelling on a separate instance that is properly aligned so it makes modelling easier.

Good work! I think your model was more defined (or detailed) than the one created for lotr... Maybe some details are not visible when you texturize the character... but go on!! :scream: :surprised
