View Full Version : attching two objectes and creating chamfer
tsmorrow 06-12-2005, 12:53 AM hey guys. here's the question. i have two objects. a box and a cylinder. i've converted them both to editable poly and attached the box to the cylinder. now how can i go about creating a chamfer along the edge where they combine??

Ok. first, detach them :)
then go to Edit, and press Hold
then use a compound Geometry object called Boolean and a function called Boolean.
OR
you can keep them as they are delete the faces covered from the box on the cylinder and the bottom of the box and use the "Bridge" tool.
OR
instead of the "Bridge" tool use Target Weld under the Vertex SO menu.
then select the edges you want and chamfer them.
If anything goes wrong that you can't undo, go again to Edit, and press Fetch.
Keep in mind that only if you Hold you can Fetch and that you have only one Hold.
Every time that you press Hold the previous state is ovewritten.

i think i got the answer for u........
boolean them together. then apply edit poly, polygon, there is a function called something.........., "tessalautee", something like that. hm this allow u to add more more number of polygon on it. and after adding more polygon to it, apply meshsmooth, or better HSDS. i prefer HSDS. remember, the number of polygon added, which is from the "tessXXXXX", will directly affect the result of the meshsmooth stuff.
if u dont like the result, tell me............

I would delete the box, set the appropriate number of sides of your cilinder (see next steps), convert to epoly, select polygons and extrude, select vertices of the extruded polygons and make planar, select edges between cilinder and extrusion and chamfer a few times, set working smoothing groups and you should be done.
I hope this helps,

actualy that sounds like the cleanest and fastest solution :)
