hi everyone.

I am following a tutorial that asks to create a new layer with 10% grey. this is for a reflection map, so there will only be 10% reflection. I'm new to photoshop so does anyone know what this means and how I can create a layer with a specific color value?

Thanks alot

hit the colour picker icon in the toolbar...the big square of colour.

i'd say your probably best off investing a little time and hitting f1 and reading the manual, it will pay off dividends from having to answer very basic questions on forums every step of the way :)

As halo said you should click on the foreground color, that will bring up the color picker.
on the right side you'll see fields you can change manually, those are used for presice values.
There are many options there but you can use the ones marked as "C","M","Y","K" don't mind the rest for now. Put zero in all the fields exept for the "K" (which stands for Black), in that field you should put 10, notice that those fields are representing percentage, which means you've put a value of 10 percent in the Black color and you left the rest on 0. Now you've got your 10% grey - go fill something.

There is much more to color and you really should spend some time reading about it, you can read the help files as "halo" mentioned, and you can look for tutorials on the net there's lots of them.
