Zbrush (soon enough)

UPDATES BELOW!!

Hey Guys,

Well i thought i would post my current model i am working on. The updates will be slow because i dont have much free time and only get to work on this sometimes after work. Right now i am just modeling the base mesh and trying to get the major masses in and keep it all quaded so it will work with zbrush well. Also it is going to get rigged by a friend of mine, so i want to keep good topo for good deformations.

Anyways, here are the concepts i am looking at right now, i am trying to come up with some armor i am happy with, what do you guys think? Also i am not trying to perfect mimic my drawings in the model, i knwo the drawings arent perfect, but they are more for an idea not so much as the final proportins and everything, but i do want it to be somewhat close to them.

Also, I was thinking i could use the ol ball in chain as a weapon, like someone put it on him before and tried to keep him down, obviosly that didnt happen, but now he just uses it for a weapon and decided to keep it on.

Well please give your crits and comments. As i said I will update as i can, but i would like to hear what you all think. Peace

Bwahahha, cool physique :) The belly topology is clever, and made me giggle too ;)

Looks like a strong start

Ed; Maybe a little more beef in the flanks of the thighs?

Thanks Guys,

Augh: yeah i think i might beef up his legs a bit, i am thinking when i put armor on him as well they might look even smaller.

So do any of you guys have preference on any of the concepts, like anythign about one more than the other maybe? Peace

I like the middle one, but maybe without helmet , or another kind of helmet.Maybe more light so you can show his face... I like the armor of the legs of the other two :P
If you let the ball at last, make it bigger!

Keep it up!

I like the design in the center aside from the helmet as well. The armor just looks cooler :) Also, all those points meeting up at the belly button would be a nuisance when rigging, try making some of em keep going across. There are also some 5 side faces on the stomach, chest and lower shoulder blades. Cool design though, keep it up.

katon
06-13-2005, 05:29 PM
Thanks guys for the input, i think i am going to go with the middle design with some changes though from some of the sugestions you have made. I agree, i like the middle overall better.

ShiroiOokami I am definetly going to revist the bely some, i do want a inward circle into the belly button, but i think i have it going to far out in the abdoman. Yeah i have all those 5 sided points because i dont like crowding areas with unecesary points until i have to quad it up, so once i am done i will make sure it is all quads.

Thanks for the input guys, if you have anymore sugestions let me know. I should also have an update soon, i worked on it some the other night, but not enough to make a post i think. Peace

Alright here is an update, i havent been able ot work on it much lately, but have been finaly finding some time to get things done. I dont remeber what i changed exaclty form thet last post, other than proportoins and overallshape. I think it looks alot better now and i am pretty happy with it. I just got done quading it all up and it is now ready for zbrush, the body that is. I also started blocking in some basic armor nothin fancy yet.

I will get my final concept up soon, and get your guys opinions. If you all have any crits please let them fly. Peace

It looks great! Did you use Z-Brush to countour the muscles, or is it all Maya's?

Hey Katon! Long time no see. I think this is actualy the first time I've seen your work. Its coming along great, I really like the head, and the muscles are coming along nicley as well. I'm sure things will change up a bit when you take him into zbrush. I'm wondering what kind of armmor and weaponry he's going to have...

Whats up Fetus,
Yeah i havent been on the boards all to much these days, work and "life" has been taking up alot of my time. As far as the armor goes i am going to go with somethign close to that center drawing on the first page but I still need to refine some of the design, and add a few things. Anyways, hopefully i will get some time here soon and post an update. Thanks for the compliments.

Nice concept art! But i really dont like those well-defined schwarzenegger muscles, they dont match with his belly, i think it would be cooler to make him more lumberjalckish, you know, with those floppy arms but still contain LOTS of power, but they are like.. big and stuff.. but i don't know... Really like your model overall except the muscles!

Peace!

Its looking good but I agree on the muscles.
Too defined for a fat ish fighter like him.
But since its just you playing around with zbrush I dont have much to say yet.

07-13-2005, 05:13 PM
Hey guys thanks for the input. I agree, i am not goign to make him totaly ripped or anything once i do my new z pass. It was really just me messing around, and i think alot of stuff on that z pass is messed up anyways, and i wouldnt let that fly if it were not me messing around.

Yeah I agree, i am going to make him more just heavy with alot of mass, i am goign to put some more subtle muscles in him but not totaly ripped.

Thanks for the pointers guys, and here is mainly my final concept i am sure i will change it up some here and there, but overall i think i am going with something like this. Peace

I kind of like what happened on the back side with Zbrush- maybe ditch the chest changes- but a defined back isn't a terrible idea. Either way- its looking really good so far.

Good luck

alright so i finaly found a little time the other night to work on this. Here is what i have so far, now this is the begining of what i would consider my real pass. I have only worked on the torso mainly and not any on the arms or legs yet, obvisouly. Anyways if you guys have any comments or crits let them fly. I am not with how far down the creese is gong into his crotch so i will most likely smooth that out. Anyways, let me have it.

It's looking good Katon! Very good! But I noticed something. He is a big fellow, therefor shouldn't you give him a bit of fat under the chin? Like a little double chin? I think it would make his head belong even better to the rest of the body. But then again, if this the concept you want, it's still very nice!

Looks great, great topology, great zbrush sculpt. i think his fingers could use some tweaking is all. they seem a bit to smooth, they could have some bulkier knuckles perhaps? the hands just seem to smooth for how big and menacing this guy is. great job.

Thanks for all the pointers guys i really apreciate it.

Levitateme I will definently beef oup the hands or something, i was thinking the same, i just yet have got to them.

Teyon Definently, i will work on his head some more and maybe thickne that neck up, i have been goign back and forth on the neck.
gardogg Yup i will be adding veins and little smaller details once i feel fine with the major masses of him, but for usre it will go in. good call

Always guys thanks for crits, i like getting some feedback.

The abdomen looks awesome! I really like the realism of his belly-fat. The only thing that looks funny to me is his neck, it's too thin for his body especially in the back of his head. I would expect to see those thick fleshy folds that many naturally muscular men tend to have (almost like there's a pack of hot dogs sitting just below the surface of their skin :) ).

katon
08-19-2005, 10:52 PM
brada, i think i am goign to thicken his neck a bit, mutiple peopel have said that and i would have to agree. And in what area exactly do you mean with having the fatty folds? on his neck?

Yeah, guys who are very naturally muscular or overweight will sometimes have fleshy folds on the back of their neck. I'll have to dig around for a picture to show you for reference, so I'll post again as soon as I find something.

It's very hard to crit such professional work! However, I can point out that he is missing nipples at this point ;) Also, the top eyelid looks unnatural right now. The outer and inner part of it fold weird. Outside of that, top notch. Did you perposefully avoid showing a direct face on view? I could crit the face proportions better with a direct face on view I'd think...

Hahaha, yeah i need to add some nipples. And yeah i was experimenting with the top eyelid, and still need to tweak it a bit, thanks for pointing it out. And i would say the pic that is showing his chest is pretty straight on, i usualy dont take screen grabs from any of the ortho views if that is what you mean by straight on. I dont like how the ortho cameras make my models look since i dont model them in it and the camera "lense" is so wide, so i dont take screen grabs from it. Anyways thanks for the crits, they are always welcome.

Well here is a minor update, I through some nips on the dude so he would look more normal, haha. Also this is not the highest level mesh so in the higher versoin the nipples have a little more detail. I fixed the sternam area some it isnt as pointer now. I also did some small tweaks on the shoulders and back, but not worth posting. Anyways, here are the nips, haha.

man have you come a long way =). Im liking his face alot, the details nice, allthough the eye lids youve allready been critiqued on. I think his bicep looks odd somewhat, I think its because its not connecting or flowing directly into the armpit, it feels like it just ends at the deltoid and isnt going in enough to the armpit. um... maybe a little more neck, I dunno, great work katon. keep it up =)

Well it has been a long time since i have been able to do any work on him. And I am actualy working with another guy and we are goign to be fixing some design stuff on him, so hopefully i will have an update on that soon enough.

But in the meantime, one of the things the new design calls for is the rest of his legs with feet. So i started to model them, and have this so far. Please give me your feedback, somehtign is looking weired to me on his legs. I will of course add all the detail and stuff in Z. Thanks guys.

Of course this will look way better once i add all the Zbruhing on it. Right now he looks a bti funny to me sinec i am used to seeing him with all the zbrush work, haha.

Katon, DOOD! Good work on the model man, had no idea you did this as well.

The belly is looking stellar, really nice weight to it, totally believable. Only two things really bugging me, and they are a bit nit-picky but w/e. The arms seema bit long just in the upper part. The overall length seems fine, but the forearm seems a bit short due to the length of the upper arm. I'd move up the elbow just a smidge and you should be fine. The last thing is the wrist, seems to be lacking bone structure in there, looks a bit rubebry. Other than that it's looking great man, hope some free time opens up so you can finish this guy.

Yo David! Nice to see you on here man. I cant believe you found this thread, i havent replied to it in ages. I just havent had any free time right now with work and other stuff to get on this guy. I will slowly finish this with some time. thanks for the crits, i can kind of see what you mean by the arm, i will see what i can do. Also the wrist is rubbery looking but that is cause i havent painted anythign in there yet. Actualy what i have done in zbrush so far is not all that much time, just knocking it out you know.
