View Full Version : Gravity with SoftFX?

Just wondering how this can be done. With HardFX theres a native gravity setting, but I don't see one for SoftFX. Do I have to add a gravity null that only affects that object?

No, you can add HardFX and apply the gravity there.

Oh, and BTW, you might stumble upon this one some time: In ClothFX when you apply an amount of "hold structure" the object will 'fight' against gravity and not fall down anymore. (The higher the amount, the more it'll stick at it's place.) Here you have to apply HardFX (and gravity) before ClothFX to make the object fall down. This is very annoying because you might get some weird looking results.

I hope Newtek can/will fix this...

Hmm wont this cause glitches as the object tries to assume properties of both hard and soft FX?

As I've said in my second post, I had some problems using HardFX-gravity and SoftFX-holdstructure together. As for a combination of HardFX and SoftFX I couldn't say since I haven't used the two together. Are you trying to achieve anything in particular?

Why? It's not broken.

Hold Structure's does what it was designed to do (http://www.spaudio.com/LW_stuff/Reference/cal/indexe.htm) -- pull points back towards their original positions. It's great for jell-o and other "solid" materials. I've also used a tiny bit of it (100 or so) on the roots of shoelaces, to encourage the shoelaces to pull back to their original starting positions. That way the shoelaces always drape nicely on either side of the shoe, and do not gather on one side or the other.

Yes, well let me rephrase that then: I would like objects, where hold-structure is applied, to realistically react to gravity and collisions, without having to fiddle around with workarounds.

Let me give an example: hold-structure is great for creating something like jelly laying on a plate. But when you'd like to throw that jelly up in the air and smack it with a baseball bat you have a problem. You will have to apply HardFX, and then the fiddling begins.

As you said, it isn't broken, there's just a limit of what LW-dynamics is able to do. But when there's a limit there might be a future request. On the other hand, I might never use a scene like the example I described above, and probably future requests are for more important stuff. So I might just give it a rest... :)
