View Full Version : Modeling: Fillet help
bluestreak 10-16-2002, 11:46 PM hi all,
i'm doing the Subaru tutorial from Mike Thomson (btw if you're there, thanks Mike)
and i'm having a problem with section 82...
this section shows how to put a bevelled edge on the hood....
first i extruded an isoparm from the hood, and then Circular Fillet the hood and extruded surface....
i can't get the fillet to work properly to put an edge on the hood...
does anyone have any ideas?
hope that makes sense...let me know i should attach some images...
thanks in advance....

That used to be the link, but I can't get it to work anymore.
You could post a couple of images here, it might help to solve your problem. Just be nice and make them small, so they don't hurt the server.
Mostly people having modeling problems dont realize that you can't make a good edge on something with just a couple of isoparms. You usually have to put three of four really close together to get what you want. When it comes to filleting things, sometimes there isn't a real quick solution to your problem. Usually you need to rebuild the surfaces first, make them the same #/span and cubic surfaces. Then delete the construction history BEFORE you fillet. If it is still messed up, try rebuilding differently, or using the construction history (not deleting it).
It just takes practice, lots of it. Hang in there, and post what you have in the WIP area if you want. There's help there, too.
Good Luck

hey dmcgrath,
here's the images(hope they're not too big)....
the hood and grill were once one piece.
and i did rebuild it first, and then detached it to get the front grill(dark blue surface)
also i have deleted the history...
btw, i have tried to 'Bevel', the front end isoparm of the hood,
and that does create a bevelled edge....
but i want to learn another way, and do it the way the tutorial says.
i also included the result i get when i follow the tutorial which says:
-extrude the last isoparm of the hood
-then create Circular Fillet between hood and Extrude
(creating curves on surfaces)
- it created some weird curved surface
oh yeah, just curious, when you say...
"Mostly people having modeling problems dont realize that you can't make a good edge on something with just a couple of isoparms. You usually have to put three of four really close together to get what you want. "
do you mean copying a few isoparms and then lofting them to get an edge?...and then i guess attach the lofted surface to the original surface?
the last pic is the one from the tutorial
sorry for the extra long questions...but....
thanks a lot....again
