i know this has been asked before, but I can't remember

I am trying to save a gif with transparency, but when I load it in my web-page, there is this crappy white outline.

HELP!

i almost dont know how to answer this succinctly...

clean it up.

its obvious what the problem is: a color, slightly off white, is a border around your objects. you need to get rid of that color so that the halo goes away. either change that color or erase it completely.

It's most likely because you have a non full transparent pixels... When you save as gifs with transparency remember you cannot have anti-aliased edges (smoothed), because gifs, unlike pngs (which aren't supported by IE yet) have transparent or opaque pixels, nothing in between...

If you have a unified background color all you have to do when you save your jpg is to choose the same color for the 'matte' option... if you've got a patterned background you're screwed !

What Mlkdesign said. In the save-for-web dialog theres a drop down menu for 'matte color'. It is set to white by default. You can set it for no color, but you'll most likely see your edges become very jaggy. The best option is to set the color equal to whatever background color is on the page.

Yes, thanks, it was the matte option.

These images don't need the have the edges smoothed,
But I could not figure out how to disable that.

I was looking in the menu ! :|

Thanks again
