Hello all

Here's my first pass at some ball play. Let me know what you think and any thoughts for improvements:

your timing is waaaaay off. When I go through frame by frame, the general shapes are looking okay, except that the small ball stretches too much to be believable.

the little bouncy one really has a very extreme stretch.
the heavy one looks pretty decent,
but the big soft one doesnt make too much sense.

you know that link?

Could you be a little more descriptive? How is the timing off?

mimo8:
Yea, I think the little one is too extreme myself. I'll bring it back a bit. I often don't go extreme enough in my animation, why is why I tried to push it a bit.
I don't like the way that the big soft one moves yet, but want it in there because of what I want to do with the scene next. Just threw some keys onto that really. Need to play with it.

Thanks for the link. I've seen some of that guys work. He does some lovely looking stuff.

I really like all three balls. It looks like you have some great motion going here.

I think the second ball has a little too much stretch (for its speed). Its movement to the left of the screen (at least for the first two bounces) doesn't seem to be decreasing. They both hold the top of the arc for the same amount of time (the bounces just seem shorter in the up/down axis).

The large ball looks really good. It might be nice to see it it roll backwards on a little "settle." But that's just a small personal preference to an already perfect bounce.

The last ball (the real squashy one), hmm... I know it's a limit of your rig, but having it hit at that angle, during the extreme squash, forces it to squash under your ground plane (before you rotate it) -- although it's not directly relating to your animation-- so I take that last sentence back.

Really good work here. It was fun to watch.

I think you've got a great start here. The small bouncy ball seems to have the best animation of the three. I think the two main things you could benifit from in these animations is a little more attention to the arcs in your paths of action. Also your spacing seems to be on the even side. Though i think the small ball achieves this the best of the three. To add more of a feeling of weight to the balls work on your slow in and slow out of the apex of each bounce, and keep the spacing larger the closer the ball is to the ground.

For the heavy ball I would suggest having it travel a little more straight down on the first fall and have gradually bigger spacing as it gets closer to the ground. This will give it more of a feeling of weight. Also if you are going for a bowling ball type of feel, I would cut out the squash and stretch altogether. Remember, not everything needs to squash and stretch to be beleivable.

One final thing I would like to suggest is to space the balls out a bit. it is a little confusing to have them start one right on top of the other. Just a thought.

Like I said you have a great start here and with a few small improvements it will be that much better. Keep up the good work.
