danydrunk 06-08-2005, 07:29 PM Hey, How can I make my alphas transparencies cast shadows when rendered? I think there is a way isnt it? I have a tree with alpha trees and without shadows it looks, incomplete....thanks.

Sorry i dont have your answer, ive came across this problem as of late too. Eeverywhere i looked said use raytrace shadows, but i couldnt et anything to work properly when using a alpha mat from a tga.
Anyone know the answer?

You have to use the sprite node in the render tree, the only limitation is that the sprite node act like an transparent or not transparent (B&W transparency image) it doesn't allow you to have progressive transparency... but very usefull for objects like trees.

thank you, actually I noticed that by simple connecting your image (tiff with the alpha channel) to the transparency node in a phong material, it will render the shadows!! very easy and simple, the reason I wasnt noticing the shadows before was because I had the light umbra shadow very low. Thanks anyway !!

Maybe you can do this.It's my test of tree leaves.(you should have you alpha channel in the picture)
