View Full Version : setting a 3rd party renderer as standard
Aearon 10-16-2002, 02:14 PM hey guys,
i hope(and guess) this is a simple question for you ;)
is there a way to set a 3rd party renderer-plugin as the standard renderer (ie whenever i create a new file brazil is already set as the renderer, possibly even with some modified default settings)
with the brazil final i just don't need the scanline renderer anymore :D

I believe Max saves the current renderer(s) when you close down, so it should be as simple as shutting down max while Brazil is set as current productions renderer...
...or
...if not, there's bound to be a setting in the 3dsmax.ini file you could edit...
or...
...you could just select Brazil as the current renderer and save the empty file as MAXSTART.max, and drop it in the max root directory.

Hey fist. I recommend the Iain McFadzen suggestion of the "save an empty file as MAXSTART.max, and drop it in the max root directory" solution. Not only can you set your renderer you prefer, you can also do things like turn off selection brackets for viewports and then everytime you start Max your current custom settings will come up everytime. Very nice. Try it, you'll like it I think.
I just tried the MAXSTART.max thing and it didn't work. Is this a Max5 thing or should it work in 4.x also?

I got it to work. It seems that maxstart.max needs to be in the "max_root/scenes/" folder.
