I am working on an animation and this beetle is going to be in it, but it's not going to be a main character or anything. Just a plain ole' beetle, but is actually a bombardier beetle to be exact. This was modeled in Cinema 4D. Lemme know what you think. Thanks!

It looks alright, but I think it is far too plain :)

Try adding a bump map for starters. No beetle shell would be quite so perfect, just add a few minor imperfections here and there.
Also, bring your spec amount down a little bit, it's looking slightly plastic-like.

You should check out the entries in this (http://contest.3dluvr.com/archive.php) contest that 3DLuVr had, where the entrants had to make CG bugs and beetles. Have a look at how they set up their surfaces - I'm sure you'll find some great references there ;)

Maybe if you were to tweak the anntanas (forgot how to spell them) upward and make them look more free flowing, that might give it some character. And yes a cool bumb on the shell would be great. Keep it up.
