View Full Version : Realistic Ice texture
arthur 10-16-2002, 08:58 AM I wonder if any one out there can help me out, am trying to create a believable ice texture, the one posted as you can see is far too geometric in its reflections and refractions.

if the reflections are your main concern thats easy to fix, use fusion to mix different nosies together, I would do a tre of four noises at least to get a nice and random effect going
try to vary the global scale contrast and such in each to make a nice mixture of noises. should create a relly interesting bump, another thing that would help is to also have a subtle smooth displacement map for some nice truly deformed reflections from the mesh.

Hi Kai
thanks for getting back to me so quickly, I am using C4D vs 7. I am confused when you say 'fusion' do you mean 'mix with other textures'. Don't mean to sound stupid but are we talking about C4D?

He means Bhodinut Fusion, it's in the SLA channels in the material editor

Hi ThirdEye_01
thanks for that, however it seems I don't have 'Smells Like Almonds' where would I get hold of it.
Also do you think I could achieve a realistic ice quality with additive textures alone?

need to read the manual it seems, SLA is there in XL 7 as a standard part of the program. Perhaps a read through of the manual might get you started on a better foot ;)
