View Full Version : DX Preview - Occasional crashes..?

Most of the time I can get DX preview working nicely in realtime preview windows - the usual stuff like opacity, specularity, glow, etc. Sometimes, though, with bigger texture maps my rig throws a hissy fit and reports a problem with the graphics card before crashing out.

Odd thing is, I have a 256MB graphics card, the very latest drivers and the card runs fine with all my games - even the mighty Doom3 and HL2.

I wonder if anyone knows if this is a 'known issue' with DX preview? Do nVidia cards have a problem with this feature? As I said, most of the time it's fine - just the bigger maps giving me problems (1024 x 768, etc).

Maybe it's because the size you mentioned isn't a power of two sized texture? If it is 1024x512 or 1024x1024 does it work ok? I have read that the max direct x display isn't happy with non-power of two textures.

Thanks for that - I didn't know there was problem with irregular texture map sizes. Very helpful pointer.
