View Full Version : Could C4D render a car looked so real?

I've seen lots of CG cars rendered by C4d, but none of them looked so real like these rendered by Lightwave. I wonder could C4d do it now?

1st one I would say yes definatally, you could easily pull this one off. Second one, Im not so sure, the car looks so realistic and the specular stars I havent ever seen in c4d. Personally I think that would be hard no matter what your using, but if you spent some time at it I think you could get close.

you could in c4d, but it would take a hell of a long time. then again lightwaves not the fastest renderer on earth. the highlights filter in v8 allows you to do the stars on the highlights.

What does a long time mean, the time for modelling or material tweaking? Will it be faster to model a car with new model tools in R8?

r8 will speed the process up, but it's still not as streamlined as lightwave for modelling. as for materials... i wouldnt have thought that would take too long... lighitng will take long in any package, thought lightwave has certain advantages, full hdri mapping etc.... however realy what i mean was there's no quick fix for doing this kind of thing in any package. it's mostly just raw talent and determination. however to fully answer you... yes i think it's possible to do in cinema 4d.

Of course it is possible, its all in the artist when it comes to renders like that. Those kinds of renders have othing to do with the app itself.

Speed of modeling, well don't know that depends on the artist. The AM will definitely speed up your workflow compared to doing it in XL7 though, the highlights can be done easily in R8.

Of course you want to see images, and well myself I have none, but I have asked a fellow C4D artist for permission to post a few of his amazing renders. Once he gets back to me, I think you'll be quite pleased.

Great, I'm looking forward to your future post.

Nice

R8 so I am guessing there is no Praline shader used for the reflections?

I would have to ask kevin, but I doubt he used praline. besides why wouldhe need to to for such a set up?

Beautiful Pics!
What is the advantage of the Praline shader ?

http://www.bhodinut.com/home/products/praline/images

The praline shaders add extra control especialy for reflections. RUFFL adds extra control when using environments and and true reflections (reflections of objects and images within the scene) I think this would be the shader that Kiwi had in mind from the praline package, and the one ting to keep in mind is in this render, he is using true reflections, I don't think he is using an environment, and if he is, its the same as the physical environment ;) Not 100% sure on that though.

Two more renders from Kevin, man these are some great renders, and to think you can call this guy for support.

Very very nice

Thats exactly what we need up on the front page for CG channel or as a thumb for a thread here :)

Kai I remember now seeing that Darf said Praline isnt ready for 8 and needs updating so Kevin didnt use Praline then :)

Is there any chance of us getting a look at the paint recipe?,or is that to much to ask :)

Thanks! :)

Nope, no Praline used... all the reflections are generated from an environment sphere around the scene.

Paint recipe... you mean the black material?

It's fairly simple... the material uses Color, Reflection, and Bump... The Color channel is simply a 5% Black
Reflection uses a bhodiNUT Fresnel with a light grey going to an almost pure black...
It uses a very hot specularity... 55% width, around 700% height, and -40% falloff.

The material originally had Lumas in the Luminance channel to give me the varying speculars, but lumas isn't calculated using global illumination without lights so I disabled it for this render.

It's lit using the HDRI fake technique

Hope that helps, Thanks again guys :)

Thanks

I never would have realized you could get such good paint reflection from such a basic recipe, and once again it comes down to ingenuity {sp},and it seems to be the artists ingenuity which takes a good image and makes it a great image not so much the package you are using,ie you dont need LW or Maya to make cars that rock

I cant wait to see them when you have tweaked some shadows etc and finished them......put them in the gallery then they should go up on the front page as a testament to what can be done in C4D :)

Thank you KevinA, I've been working on a futuristic taxi for the last week but I couldn't get the texture right, but now... Oh it looks good :applause:

KevinA really cool cars....
I hope this isnt asking too much, but could u write an tut for the TT or Viper, I belive it would be truly appritciated thruout the community!

The last two proves that

cinema 4d * user_skill_effort = lightwave * user_skill_effort

The only thing is that I find in Cinema is that the community support is not as strong as it is in Lightwave. The tutorials, examples, or books are not as varied as they are in Lightwave communities. I think it has to do something with the company being in German. This may change later.
