I used 3ds max, afterburn and comustion to make this short animation. It's so fu***ing difficult to get the motion of the explosion right. I had to make several individual particle system, each with different spin.
If you notice anything I could do better, please tell me!!

Here it is:

Oh, Sorry!

This should be right.

Edit: It seems like its okay when you copy the link and paste it in the adress tab in a new window. Try it

It should be working now.

Hi,

It works, but I couldn't work out what it was supposed to be, it looked like 2 seconds of spinning visualizations that come with Media Player.

What exactly is it supposed to be?

Huh? Thats strange. Something is wrong. It should be a car, perfectly visible for 15 frames, and then it's exploding. I may have to re-campress it. What kind of codec do you recomend I use?

Hi,

Ah right, it looks like for some reason you only have the audio part of your animation, and the blue spinning things were obviously the media player visualizations!

Does it work on your computer at home?

I don't normally use Max so I have no idea of available render and compression options.

Try this:

Link works for me.
But,... I don't get it. Looks like a kind off nuclear explosion, with this mushroomlike cloud, but the only part being affected by this explosion is the hood of the car. There should be nothing left of the car, more parts flying around, debris and not only a car just doing a little jump.
It doesn't fit together(even the windows stay intact).

I know, but I haven't actully started on that part yet. What I'm focusing on is the explosion. Do you have any suggestions on what I could do to make it more dynamic? Or how to make the shader look better??

The shader looks like a huge oilfire, a too much movie-like explosion, it's too heavy.
Google for references like framerate.net or fotosearch.com/.

Ok. Thanks! I'll try to make it better..

woohoo :D really good blow up, what i recomend is to crash the car almost half, sending the whole thing few meters in the air and then crashing down with the wheels throwing off... anyways looks really impressing to me :)

my suggestion send a missle at it, looks like missile hit , also the explosion should blow up outward not too far up , other than that very cool

Hi.. Thanks, and sorry for my late reply. I used a long time to figure out how to make such explosions. To Los: specify your question, and Ill tell you what to do.:) And to Thehive: I will try that. That was actually one of my ideas, I just havent come that far yet :)

Here is a new test.

Hope it works well this time

Looks great, maybe you must put more flying car parts in fire, also a 2 or 3 frames fullscreen soft yellow so will like the explotion is "flashing" in your face. i recomend use Avi(Divx), MOV, WMF or MPG formats that are much more compatibles.

Good Job, i like it, work i little more the Vfx, and put some Lights Textures, and RENDER! ;)

keep posting my friend.

Thanks for your reply!

I will try to make lots of burning parts. I will also try to rip of the drivers door. But Im having troubles deciding where the ground should be. the camera is matched with matchmover, and I risk the objects will hit the ground above the ground in the footage. Thats difficult to prevent, but I'll se what I can come up with!

Looking good so far! The sounds really help too. I might suggest simply shaking the camera around instead of actually making a zoom. I can't help thinking about why the person holding the camcorder would know to zoom in with such a sudden explosion. Can't wait to see more!

Thank you mezza550!
I'm most possible gonna make a movie including this explosion. I'll keep that In mind then. I'll also probably use 4 different angles to make the explosion sequence more interesting as well.
Thanks for your advice. :)

Hi. A litle while since I last updated my project. I have only done a couple of things, like adding a missile into the thing. Also something happened to one of my forces, so the explosion is not spreading as much as before, but I have corrected it, just not rendered it again. Hope you like the new version.

By the way, this mov-file is bigger. I don't know how I made it so small the last time. So please be patient.
