View Full Version : Jello fight - demo reel progress (NEED COMMENTS!!!)
unapimper 06-05-2005, 02:01 AM Hey guys, I am putting this in my demo reel - it's not finished yet, but rendered in DivX so far, so I need as much criticisms/comments about the animation as possible.

The character animation works well. The jello needs to have a slight lateral movement as well. The forward backward motion becomes to predictable. Camera angles can be more dynamic. Closer shots of facial expressions with parts of the wobbly jello taking up only small parts of the frame at times would help alot.

I can see it and it's pretty good. the animation flows in a good way and the jelly movement is really nice, though something is missing in the shader, it feels a bit like flexible plastic, maybe adding some moisture/wetness, something like that? not my area texturing anyway. Good job!

I was able to see it today! So comments...
It's a fun little piece. I wonder what you're trying to showcase overall, because animation is good, but lighting and shading needs a lot of work. My main field is animation so I can't give you very technical solutions to the look of it, but my main problem is that there is a lot of 'flatness' in the piece. The plate seems to be floating, the lighting seems to be too soft and uniform, maybe a stronger directional light will help. Overall the lighting feels a bit soft with fuzzy shadows.
As far as animation goes you've got a nice feel going here. A couple of things. When little dude is climbing on the table he seems to slide forward unnaturally just before he does his final little hop and kneel. Secondly, when he licks his finger his lips don't react correctly. To me this is your biggest problem as it really just doesn't work. Yes we can see what he's doing, but his lips don't curl around his finger, his mouth just semi closes. If this is a rigging problem then rather leave this action out altogether as it detracts from the overall piece. AS an alternative have him stick his tongue out and lick his finger rather than sticking his finger in his mouth.
That's all I have for now. Hope it helps.

Thanks a lot! What I will be going for is primarily an animation reel, so all I did was to use mental ray render with Final Gather lit by a nURBS sphere with incandecense cranked up. That's about it.... lighting and rendering is not really my field either:P and I don't intend to get a job in that field... is it important that I have a good render?
I will try and fix the rest of that animation - thanks for your comments! So is everything else fine animation-wise?
