Hi guys,

It seems I had some problem with the brush libraries and I am thinking about doing a clean reinstall of the Painter 9. Reading some of the previous thread, there's mentioning about uninstalling the program first before reinstalling, but is this just for the PC window version? I am using the Mac version and can't see the "uninstall" option with Painter installer.

Thanks in advance for you guy's advice.

Hi,

If your problem is only with brush libraries, you should not need to reinstall Painter IX.

Painter IX, unlike earlier versions, is multi-user friendly. This means that Painter IX Application/Program folders and files are read only and all user preferences, custom brush variants, and other custom settings and files are written to your User folder.

The Mac Painter IX User folder is here:

/Users/[User Name]/Library/Application Support/Corel/Painter IX

The Windows Painter IX User folder is here:

Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Corel\Painter IX

To restore Painter IX to its installed state:

1. Close Painter IX.

2. Create a backup folder somewhere outside of the Painter IX application/program folder and outside of your Painter IX User folder.

3. Copy your Painter IX User folder and paste it into the backup folder so you'll be able to move your custom preferences and other custom files back to the User folder later.

4. Hold down the Shift key while launching Painter IX and you now should see everything just as it was when Painter IX was first installed.

Hi Jin,

Thanks for your fast reply, will try and see if it works.

One further question, is it normal for Painter XI to launch the last opened brush library ( after quitting and starting the program again ) ? I had read from the manual that the "Painter Brushes" is the default brush library, does it mean this "Painter Brushes" library should launch every time when starting the program instead of the last loaded library?

Hi vince,

Yes, it's normal. Though the Painter Brushes library is the default brush library, the one that opens after Painter IX is installed, Painter IX remembers the last brush library we open and that brush library is loaded the next time Painter IX is launched.

With Painter 7 and Painter 8 (probably earlier versions as well), the default Painter Brushes library is loaded each time we open Painter, even if we did close it with another brush library loaded.
