Hello, I have started using maya like..3 days ago perhaps. This is my first time trying to get into 3d modeling.

I was trying to follow a car modeling tutorial but most of them tutorials are confusing. So I thought of modeling the car my own way, what I basically did was dividing everything to planes (front bumper is a plane, hood is a plane...etc). Now I got some questions:

1. Is this a valid method?

2. I am almost done with the car..there are a few glitches and so, and I think they would only be fixed if I 'glued' the parts together, how can I do that?

Thank you and have a nice day

i would suggest that since your only 3 days into maya that you start of with something easier than a car. check out learningmaya.com i think they have something for beginners. get to know maya a bit more and then try out the tutorial on the car. i think you'll understand it more then coz the tuts are based on the fact that you know the basics at least.

The problem is not in me knowing all the basics...well, I read LOTS of stuff in those PDF that came with the lessons CD, and I modelled some stuff with poly, NURBS, Subdivisions and all these techniques. ofcourse I cant say that I 100% know the tools, hence my question about a specific tool that would glue separate stuff together.

Thank you for the help ;D. I have been checking learning maya for sometime now too =).

just post a picture of your actual progress and we can give you some hints.

if you have used polygons you can merge vertices.. tor just modell more accurate ;)
for nurbs you can use attatch surfaces functions...

it's all up to you

Yeah dude. Try learning the tools first before diving into a car. Your'e only going to frustrate yourself. Digital Tutors has some free lessons and does high end 3D. Both really good resources for learning.
