View Full Version : Adding edges to a curved surface

Is there a way/technique to add edges to a curved Sub-D surface such that the new edge doesn't interfear with curvature?

Or is it by the nature of a Sub-D cage that this operation cannot be done.

See example at this URL:
http://www.pixelvisionstudio.com/stuff/phone_edge.jpg

I'm wanting to split the selected loop such that the new edge doesn't alter the curvature at the corner of the phone.

I hope this doesn't seem like a completely silly question. I've done a fair bit of nurbs modeling, so maybe I'm wanting to place an isoparm and that type of thinking doesn't work with Sub-D.

peace,

Try the "loop slice" while in sbdv mode.
If not happy , just freeze your geometry before loop slicing (curve menu).

By its nature it will change the curvature but you can decrease the effects quite a bit. As mentioned above you can do a loop slice along that loop or you could always try selecting that outter edge loop of the selection and beveling the edges with a rounding setting of 0.
