how long have you been using maya for and also what do you think are your strengths in 3d.
I've been learning Maya for about a year and a half now. I don't really know what my strength is, but I think doing particles is cool and I like putting 3D objects into live footage.

i really dig the heat wave distortion is that done in combustion?
Yeah, the heat ripples are made by particles in Maya, and use that particle pass for distortion map in Combustion

you need to do some color correction. the biggest problem with compositing is that people dont color correct. looks good though. I like the model.

Speaking of which, does anyone know where to find good color correction information or tutorials on the web? I would love to learn more about it. Nice image mike, I haven't done much compositing, but that looks damn fine.
You have good eyes:) I did forgot to color correct my ship because I rendered with tilted light in Maya. Do you think I should add a little bit of yellow to the ship?

Id go ahead and do it by eye. and id color correct the background instead of the ship. just to add a little more something to that shot
