When rendering, the specular highlights are missing on transparent surfaces. I had the same thing happen last year (using5.0), I was able to fix the problem by rendering with MentalRay, going to the Framebuffer attributes and switching from RAW to RGB, and also unchecking Premultiply.
Here is a link to that thread. (http://cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=137937&highlight=premultiply)
Now I am having trouble with Maya6.5 renders...On a Mac.
Rendered with Mental ray. Non-Premultiplyed= Jagged Alpha channel.

Rendered with Maya standard, Non-Premultiplyed...Smooth alpha, but missing specular highlights in transparent areas.

Finally, rendering with both Maya and MR, with Premultiply checked.= Dark outline around objects.

BTW, I am working on a Mac for the first time...Any suggestions will be appreciated. These renders all look like........
