VIRTUAL INSANITY FILM UPLOADED
http://jhsite.zapto.org/VirtualInsanity(small).mov
(Update)19/09/05
New Link thanks to Head Cheese for hosting and for the positive feedback.

Hi guys,

I have been lucky enough to find some nice people to host the short film Virtual Insanity.
Once again thanks for all the help form everyone and credit to Noel Hines who was the director. He has his own 10 minute version which is longer and more focussed on the story. I had to cut mine down for my final project as i was ony being marked on the CG and visual effects. I also created the behind the visual effects part.

Hope you enjoy
Christiaan

Thank you to Matt and Luke for hosting!

Hey People,

I have just finished my short film made with a friend of mine. Here are the final shots from the film about guy in possession of some future technolgy virtual reality sun glasses.

Unfortunatly on my student budget i haven't been able to get enough space to upload the full film. If anyone would be interested in hosting it (around 50 meg but should be able to get it smaller) then please feel free to contact me at

Hey people,

thanks for the responses, i should hopefully have the film uploaded soon to one of these guys. Um am having a few problems exporting to a reasonable size though. Its about 10 mins in total with film and documentary but if i use quicktime (sorenson 3 at 320x240) then its massive. and the only avi codec i have is Cinepak which makes it too big still, i do have DivX and Xvid but they aren't working prooperly with premiere pro.

Does anyone know of any good free codecs that would give me a good size to quality ratio?

Cheers
Chris

can try mpeg4 quicktime compression, smaller than sorenson3 and about the same quality, from the stills, good comps and lighting so far!

ok i tried that and got 21 meg per minute.. its shot in widescreen 1.422 aspect ratio but i am exporting it as square pixels so that it is kept at widescreen witht the black bars at the top, Is that making a big difference??

any other ideas anyone?

The scenes looked promising, can't wait to see the short. The eyes of the werewolf could be made more realistic looking as it looked CGI, other than that the scene shots are good.

ok i'm getting quite annoyed now, still can't get it too less that 72 meg...
I'm on a PC with Adobe Premiere Pro, 10 mins long, exporting to DIVx 250 x 200

Can anyone tell me the best settings that would give me an uploadable sixe?

Cheers

If you wanna try (or if you do get desperate) you could look into VirtualDub (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtualdub/VirtualDub-1.5.10.zip?download) which could give you a chance to use the Xvid codec (if it really is Premiere Pro giving you problems with that codec), otherwise you might have a bad install of Xvid or an unstable version.

What audio compression are you using? Also what bitrates are you setting it at for both audio/video compression? It might mean nothing...then again......

Anyways, those stills look good. I'd love to see this short.

Heya,

I thought of a way that people would be able to download my film. I've sent it to myself using yousendit.com

here is the link that will allow you to download the file. It'll only be there for 7 days and has limited number of downloads.

Once again many thanks to all the people involved and congrats to the director too, Noel Hines.

I achieved a First for it as my final project for university 3D Digital Design

here's the link (i hope i'm not breaking any rules if so then please let me know)
Regular link (for all web browsers):

its quite a big file 53 meg, Quicktime file

Nice, I enjoyed it. I hope a sequel gets made, or another one like it, maybe set in a different place. Have the same guy and lady from this one in it. :) Also, Imagine if an old women or man put the glasses on, I wonder what they'd see. Cheers.

You might want to try Quicktime 7 Pro

You'd be able to use the H.264 AVC (MPEG 4 advanced video codec) for your movie after premiere is done with it. I'd also crop your letterbox bars from the frame as well, they'll do nothing but add to your file size. Pro version is required to encode H.264, any (free or pro) QT7 player will play H.264

hope that helps, I'm looking forward to getting a chance to see this animation!

Sunglasses of fear, which is apparently the theme, that brings out each person's fear to those who wear it, selectively chosen it seems. Nice storyline, though the animation of the werewolf could be improved further, especially when it was landing near the lift. A growl and screeching sound effects for the werewolf and bats respectively would bring a certain impact to the animation. Keep it up!

Thanks for the replies. I am now entering the real world with a salary and responsiblities doing architectural visulaisation for Rock Hunter. www.rockhunter.co.uk a small london based company with a refreshing approach to visualisation.

I am in the process of designing a website for the film that will have full details about the crew and cast along with details about further work from myself and the director.

So keep an eye out and thanks again for the support!

Well it took me the entire night to download and my critique is this.

Your knowledge of 3d modelling is great but the movement and the general flow was really way too unrealistic. It didnt do anything for me and I was kinda dissapointed : /

Stick to modelling, but work on your animation and compositing.. wasnt worth the 50 meg download thats all.

Keep up the hard work.

Your film skills were better than the cg... heh.

Parts I liked:

The last girl putting on the glasses.
The first time the guy put on the glasses.

Well Fabian, i appreciate you taking the time to download my film but i feel your response is very harsh and had you taken the time to actually read about it then you would have realised that i wasn't responsible for the filming part.

Also i realise that my animation isn't quite up to standards of some films but as it was my first attempt at animation, camera matching, skinning, boning and compositing for film. I (and almost every person i've shown) have given it a positive response.

I had 18 weeks to complete the whole project at 3rd year of university while doing other projects such as a dissertation. I also achieved a First for the project

I think your comments are unjustified.

You should try compressing your file with Sorenson Squeeze, it really Sqeeeeezes those large uncompressed files down pretty well. Just a suggestion, i figure every little bit helps ya know? Oh, also i believe that the same program will get rid of those black bars for you, don't quote me on that, but i think it can...might have to play around with some settings, but anyways, i think that your first attempt wasnt bad at all, and with growth you will get better! People will always have negative feedback, you just have to learn how to take it with the good, dont let it get you down. Best wishes to you and,g'luck...Peece!

I thought the film was good, I think that you should have tried to make it more of a cinematic experience by adding motion blurs, camera shakes, try keeping the camera less shakey. The good things are the idea, idea is really good, the compositing is good, some of the animation is good, good work mate, keep up the god work:)

Hello boys,

Chris man you really did deserve your first. The film is excellent everyone! Kind of guess it was the center piece for the whole exhibition! Though the widescreen plasma screen donated by the university might have contributed! lol only joking the visuals are stunning and the concept very strong, well done. I particularly liked the making of documentary. Shows an efficient and professional work mentality that makes your work stand out. Look forward to seeing more of your projects in the future.

Why not try OurMedia.org (http://www.ourmedia.org/) for hosting your video? I think the only catches are that it's viewable by the world (which isn't a bad thing in this case?) and it takes about a week before it's available from the site - but it's all totally free.

Hey Guys and Gals,

Thanks to Head Cheese (never thought those words would go together) the film is back online.
I have posted the link on the first page and here. Again sorry about file size when i get some spare time i will be making some adjustments to the film to make it better after having talks with the director. But as i am now in full time work, free time seems to be rare.

Anyway Hope you enjoy.. This is my first post to have a * rating Wohoo!

Hey there, I just found about these two things that are great for hosting your videos.

Try

http://rapidshare.de/ (http://rapidshare.de/)

or

http://megaupload.com (http://megaupload.com)

Megaupload holds more, but I haven't tried it yet and it might have some things you have to do for it hold your file. I use rapidshare, it'll keep your upload online for ever, unless no one downlaods the file even once over a months time. Also if you need help I can make your movie any format from avi, mpeg,or wmv. I know what it's like to want to host something but not having the right resources to do it. Hope I could Help.

After having been to a MAX 8 Seminar i am now in the process of coming up with ideas for a sequel. The animation and fur will be so much better with the new release of max 8

Posts will come as soon as the ideas do.
