You can find and download my most recent version of my Modelling Reel, in it's current state im changing things almost every day, and im working on finishing off as many models as possible to see which of those I have started turns out good. If you are not as lucky as some, theres a gallery which atleast shows off 3 models included in the Reel. Criticism of the constructive kind is welcomed.

The modelling reel wasnt too impressive... I think reels are more suited to things like animation, not models... Probably better off putting up renders of your models on your page.

I dont know why james thinks reels arent for modelers cause they are, it is a good way to show off your models, so yes you need a reel like this.

Anyways, a little crit. I had a hard time telling what the models were. I think you need to show off the wires or some untextured versions with wires on top, so we can see your poly contstruction.

The textures need some work, right now they look very flat, and have no depth to them, try and add some form into your textures, becuase low poly stuff has to be faked with textures to look high poly and by painting form into your textures this is done. Also i dont recomned using a seemless texture liek that over your whole model, it really makes the model look flat, unless you get some better lighting. But i still woouldnt do that, i mean it is good to re use texture space where you can and what not, but dont use the same thing for a complete character.

Show off your texture pages. Peoplpe like seeing those to see what your textures look like.

I would loose the aniation on that frist model if you dont plan on doing any of that, if this is a modeling texturing reel keep it at that.

Alos the text bothered me for some reason, i would keep it clean and simple, just my opinion though.

Also the text on the stands was hard to read, the textures on it were making it hard to read, maybe just keep it a black instead of that lava looking thing.

But keep on working on your models and update them and just model as much as you can and they will improve. I hope these thoughts helped.

I enjoy the concept of a modelling reel, but it does involve more than just chucking some models into a video to make it a good showcase of your work.
Firstly, design, design, design. The text throughout the video was boring. It looked cheap and tacky. Nothing was happening during the reel also. Get some movement in there to make it a little bit more exciting.
Secondly, you models need a lot of attention. Both modelling and texturing need improvement. Spend the time on your modelling skills before trying to make a reel to show other people!

Thanks for your time guys. Yes, I agree with many things that you have said. Im not to good with texturing yet. Mayhaps I should spend some more time doing so. Also showing off wire and textures is something im defineatly going to do. The font is bad i agreeill change it, and the model labels, and I think i will xhange their stand. Well, almost nothing finished yet.

Ill post here when ive adressed alot of the things.

dont take this the wrong way but i think you need to practice a lot more before making a demo reel, they are suppose to showcase your best work and this is still too primivite and doesnt show much competence as a modeler. Every aspect of the reel needs work , i think you should keep practicing and always aiming to improve. best of luck :)

Thank you very much Heber, i rarely recieve and analyse critic the wrong way so to speak. I as an artist could go on for houers and houers modelling and tweaking the last polygons, but eventually i reach a time where I feel satisfied, maybe I am putting that level to low for myself, altho, i must admit, even thou you are not, I sure am impressed by myself, looking back half a year, this was impossible for me. I know my skill is to early for to building a reel, but i was of to an early start so to speak, and will continue to improve it and improve and improve like all the time haha, as my skill grows, eventually the potential of the Reel will beacome more and more apparent as I understand.

In comparison with other reels ive seen... Im putting up the best of my lowpolygon things, beacuse I think that whats relevant is that you can get great results working lowpoly if you are aiming towards beacoming an artist who works with ingame stuff. Even thou todays computers can take maybe between 2000-5000polygons for characters, there is nothing wrong with having less, the lesser the more you can have on screen at the same time right?
Im putting up work which I think is my best, and updated often, and even if its early for posting im posting here for critic, so that its early is relatively irrelevant..

I wish to thank you all for your input so far, I know im not great yet, but im going there.
Cheers, keep it up all!

I agree with Heber. What you also have to keep in mind is that 3d is just like 2d in the respects that you have to get those "X" number of crap drawings and models out of your system and then you'll start to see better models coming after you get through that phase(everyone starts with crap.....the really really good people have more crap drawings/ models than the rest of us)

I would say hold off on the reel because it's taking away from your modeling, texturing, ect. You're seem to be rushing to improve... Slow down, it'll come.
