hi ... I'm dabbling in PS ... and have a very noob question 2 ask.. can anyone tell me how to get it so that when I cut and paste from one layer to another, the pasted image ends up in EXACTLY the same spot??? It's driving me KraZy ..!! what am I doing wrong?

Copy the whole layer, not only the content

If you are making a selection (marquee, lasso, loaded channel, etc...), just use CMD/CTRL + J. This will copy the selection to a new layer in exactly the same spot.

oh... it occurs to me you may be talking about copying between different documents. In that case, it's easier to start with documents of exactly the same dimensions. Otherwise, there is no 'exactly same' spot, and you'll have to place by hand.

If your docs are the same size and resolution, but you want to copy just a part of a layer from one to the other, you can still use the above method to create a new layer of selected content. Then, in your layers pallete, SHIFT+Click the layer thumbnail of the source and drag it to the new document, and release on the new doc window (with SHIFT still held down).
