View Full Version : stills: i like mice
chrislomaka 02-17-2002, 07:03 AM i know i just put the small ones on my site, but i've gotten such good feedback here that i though i'd share a big pic with you all. and comments/criticisms/questions would be welcome. i think i might change the color of the logo, as the light teal seems to fade into the gray too much...

anyone know how to attach more than one file?

Nice work! I like the touch of DOF in the top picture. This would be great for a product visualization. If you want it to look realistic though - I'd add some grit, scratches and grunge. If you flip your mouse over, you'll notice a lot of scratches and gunk buildup (on mine anyway!)
You can't attach more than one file - but you can do what you did and stick a whole bunch of images into one file (which is friendlier on the server).
Cheers

WOW - now thatīs what i call photo-realistic !
Nice work on both (model & textures) . . . How many vertices describing the shape ? Any wireframes ?

i was going for the factory-showroom clean look, but i did put some scratches onto the pads (the jpg compression blurred them a bit too much:( ). i'll see what i can do about wireframes sometime tuesday, when i have access to the equipment i need... poly count is kinda high, considering that it's a mouse, but stuff i re-did for rendering used LW's metaforms, so that cut down on the count a bit (stuff like the label, the pads, and the cord). i can still see the poly edges around some parts, but like most projects, i learned so much making it that i'd do a lot of stuff differently if i were to do it again. such is life...

as you can see, the mesh is fairly dense. on all the stuff that's meta-formed, i set the sub=patch rendering to 6 (i kept the display to 1 or 2, just so my computer won't freak from trying to deal w. all the polys)

You don't need to make it that high poly to make it look good. I would personally drop that poly count to half :)

actually, i can still see some of the poly edges in places (DOF blur *does* hide that a bit;) ), but the geometery that's still metaformed has an excessivly high poly count when rendered, but thankfully those pieces are few, and i didn't notice that much of a render time jump when i took out the old, low-poly ones for the meta ones. the body i had to freeze so i could cut it apart, and i'm still not happy with how some of those edges look... (note that they're only visible in the small images... heh)

keep the polymesh high, unless your going to animate. there is no reason to lower it
