Hi all,
currently i am making a short CG film. In respect to this i would like to know what tools
professional animators use. Is there a link where i can get a comprehensive list.

In addition Is there a tool which will import a video footage and animate my skeleton based
on the a character in the video. I think such a tool would be of great use as it will allow
the animators to work more on the creative side.

What in your opinions is the reason such a tool not widely used..
MOtion Capture using sensors is still at an expensive side.

Thanks

I would say the tool is much less important than the animator.
I know Jeff Lew uses animation master and that in not a multi-thousand dollar product, and his animations are good.

As far as video motion capture, I actually saw a peice of software that did that once, but it was overpriced and the results were not very good.
My best suggestion would be to get a peice of software like Alias's Motion Builder that has a library of pre-captured motions, and use animation layers to build on and change those.
You can also search on google for free motion capture library. Likely you will come up with something.
Good luck!
