ok im extracting and separating the parts of my head model in order to more easily uv map them (like taking the nasal and ocular cavities out as well as the ears off the head) now...once ive uv mapped (and in the case of the ears transferred the uv's) everything...if i delete history on each object the uv's will be "locked in" right? so then i should be able to reattach them to the head for one seamless mess thats ready to be painted...or am i not right?

'fraid not. Reattaching the pieces of the model won't move the UV's. You'll have to shunt them around manually and sew 'em back together.

ahh good thats what i thought--in case i wasn't clear enough i detatched portions of my head to map easier and to make manually manipulating the uv's a bit less of a nightmare lol. I was just wanting to know that after i did the manual manipulation of the uv's, then deleted history and combined/merged the poly surfaces together, that i wouldn't lose all that uv manipulation--- it would be a serious pain to go through all that, get the uv's the way i want them...then lose all that work because i sewed the mesh back together...anyways thank you for the reply :)
