Can you convert a NURBS curve back into a spline? If not, then how do you snap the ends of NURBS curves together? Is Curve Ends snap the only wat because that is pretty tough to work with.

Yes, you can. Go to scriptspot.com and look for a script called something like NURBS2spline... it'll do that.
As for snapping... I'm afraid it's the only way... but you can always close the curve, if you want...

polygone, I see you've tried patches(another post) and now you're trying nurbs. If you are having difficulties with these techniques, I would suggest giving poly modeling and/or box modeling a try. If you browse the forums enough you will find that most(not all) max users are using these 2 forms of modeling. There's a reason for this, they are straight forward techniques that produce great results, quickly. Patches while having great potential, can be difficult to use. When I first started maxing, I did take the time to figure out how to work with the curves and handles. Nurbs in max are widely known to be sub-standard, and have remained virtually unchanged for quite some time. I'd love to see the implementation of Rhino style nurbs in max. But until that happens(if ever) I feel that polymodeling is the best method in max..... for me at least. What I'm saying is that there are abundance of resources for modeling in max, just not pertaining to the techniques you are choosing. That alone should be an indication as to which methods are being used with success.

toonman, thanks for the reference. I will go after that script :)

Tbonz816, I'm glad you posted a reply. It is good solid information. The more I dig into the 'other' modeling tools of Max5, the more evident it becomes that Polygons is it's strong suit. I'm starting to believe your statement about the NURBS support. The toolset seems incomplete.

Thanks for the resonse guys!
