This image has a very Luis Royo feel to it. I really like it. Granted, the character doesn't feel very intense, but maybe she isn't supposed to. I can't wait to see the final product.

She looks great.... a little play of light for mood and the stare can be deadly....She is really2 putting 100% of her brain power on wuteva she is looking at....i mean the girl on the painting....:hmm:
coCoKNIght
05-30-2005, 06:56 PM
i don't see any luis royo in there but maybe that's because there're no colors :scream:
well, apart from that fact and that fact that this is a pretty amazing starting i goota point out that you always seem to draw/model more or less the same girl... So I'd like to see a different kind of female type represented once in one of your work :D
The expression on her face is very strong, I like that a lot
Sadly I can't see whats going on on the overall image... so UPDATE!! :wip:
cheers!

this evening i had a crash, and the progress of the whole evening was lost, so restartign on the point again i was.
coCoKNIght: lol, comes from 2 things. there's a certain type of girls i like. sometimes i paint different, but in general, it's just my way to draw girls. and... simply part of my still changing unstabile and luckily still developing style... thats why i practice :D
SurfGod69a: restarting now :) hope you'll like it, i pretty nailed down the colorblocks when my pc decieded to shutdown without a warning.
ms@zx: thanks Michael! happy you like the start!
Visioneer: Can't see much of a luis Royo in my piece. Well, Luis sure is a great artist. Maybe the ONE Fantasyillustrator of our time. It's an honor to be compared to a master of his level, wich i am very far from. The only thing i could discover is the airbrushy look. Since i formerly used to freehand airbrush, i have much fun to drop a burst of white on fog and specularity on the top coat. its a comon way to do some glow to light up a dark piece. Know i am not luis. and i am not supposed to let this look like his work. thanx for crits anyways
maranello55: thanks mate. going to rewor the ketch now and start the coloring.
thanks all for the crits and the help. back jere later tonight with a little u0pdate i hope :)

Take another look at Royo's work. I think you will find more similarity than you think. Take a look particularly at his sketches, and the almost Godly amount of detail he puts into them, much like yours. I have been trying to follow Royo's work for the past 6 years, studying it, seeing what I can use from it. You are working at a level high above myself, and I appreciate the amazing work that you do.
Granted, with the color, it loses it's edge, but it is still quite the eye catcher. I'm looking forward to see how this piece progresses.

heya hun... just came to post my thoughts! I love it thus far, every element appeals to me, especially the outfits and the background (very reminiscent of the opening scene from Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, which I adore). The muted colour pallette seems to work very nicely given the subject matter, and I love the girls you paint.. they are what makes this an "Angel" piece! Love the highlights on the angel's silhouette, and the boots!
And, on a side note... you've given me a wonderful burst of inspiration for a twin to this piece!

Looking good, but perhaps too early to criticize. One thing that pops into my eye, though, is that the whole composition seems to be shifting to the left. And now that I think about it, perhaps the beast's head shouldn't be facing the viewer, almost making him the most important subject. Great work!

1st detail, one of the statues at 30%... still sculpting
Just came to stick my nose in here and see what i missed. *grin*
Yulias: tHank you very much Yulia, glad you like the basic coloring. the palette will spread much with the painting itself... :)
Sir Squib: Going to add fur, as you wish :D well its red by purpose, its a very personal piece i do here and the one lady well... likes big RED monsters. but fur is an input i gladly take up!
Visioneer: THanks a lot for your nice crits. well, look at my shodly way to scribble. then u propably change your mind... i am just painting where my feelings lead me to. loose, without a plan, just straigh ahead and see how things pop up. i always did it that way.
the blurry look was just to have soft transitions between the colorblox, the final image will be sharp and clear i hope. Thanks for your nice words Jeremy. hope you'll like the progress mate
Zephyri: Hail my lovely Lady! I am about to download Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust, coudn't take it to miss something you love, and can' wait to see it m' dear! Well, first i am very very happy you love what i am painting here, and I'll give my best to make it my best work ever. Needless to say who inspired me to start this, and much much more!
the technical part of it will be quiet challenging, i have a rich palette of textures and materials i wanna paint for this, velvet, silk, leather, steel, stone, different types od fur and skin, and all in a shiny night environment.
about your sidenote: knew it things started too comfortable here, now i feel the pressure to have a really hard time to not look pale in the shadow of your outstanding talent, hehe. lol, never the less, and for sure, defiantely: this is something wich almost let's me jump around on my chair, :bounce: Woooohooooooooooo! can't wait to see what you come up with, and i am more than happy i could be an inspiration to you too! can't wait to see you paint the twin piece!!! you made my day twice again!!! thanks hun!
Arkinet: Orvill, lol, hahaha, i tried to hide here, lol, didnt work ;) hahahaha, glad u like my start.
Andreas: thanks a lot for the input! you are 100% right about the beast and i'll work on it soon, just started on the backgrounddetail, to fix my level of detail, plan to work me stroke for stroke towards the foreground this time, maybe. propably not. lol, i tend to jump around. i work so chaotic  but the beast defiantely will get a strong workout, a possebilety i'll try is to let it lean its head on its mistresses leg, like a striding kitty. if that makes sense. thanks for your sharp eye!
mosconariz: lol, see why i am THAT happy now? its been never sweeter to have gotten pushed that hard, I better go and try to not look too old now :D ps: Sleep sux :p lol
ok, trying to get a bit further with the piece now, sigh... intoxigated flying high trying to get my strokes making sense, brush brush brush... :wip:

mosconariz... there's no such thing... each pic will be of equal worth! (Well.. except I'll think Sacha's is better by default).
Hey hun.... just came to let you know I've put up my own pic in the WIP section too... and to say I love that statue... and that it would be amazing if the monster at the Lady's side had echoes of him.. he's so lean and scary and powerful looking. Can't wait to see this come on. And enjoy VHD Bloodlust.. I'm sure you'll appreciate it.

Zepyhri: Heya Luv! Just been there and am so happy now! To know we do this together gave me a huge boost and I'll work even harder on this now, knowing i can't allow myself nothing that is not good enough for you, and only my best is. Besides, there is one point i think you are wrong. you have such a huge talent your sense for storytelling and your wonderfull feeling for comopositions, colors, dynamics. I love what you do and i think i havent reached your level yet, i am just a selfeducated kid that always loved to scribble and I'm working on it.
I started colorsculpting on mylady, and a first glance of the piece starts to apear :)
hehe, i am happy you like the little monsters i started. its been very fun to play with it and i sure will paint out miladys pet with all of my attention to make it nice monster, promise.
I sure will enjoy VHD Bloodlust, never had doubts, thanks for it and all you give me. :)
Moscoloco! lol, no, more a partnerwork, bro, points of view. lol, but still it's challenging enough i try to make my painterskills become usable, and working along with my lady pushes me for sure!
hehe, hope you making nice progress with your painting as well, checkin' in a few mmins :)
xric7: Thitipon, thank you so much! notify me please when you start your new WIP! can't wait to see what you come up with! i am happy you like what i do! Hope we all can enjoy your progress to mate! see you soon!

hpslashluvr: Thanks. I wanted to let her focus like a cat or... an artist does. I am not sure how thaat came now, looked fine to me so far the whole evening, but now that u mentioned it it bugs me... going to figure it out, thanks for your help :)
here's the piece at the actual stage. so much to do!
http://www.angel3d.ch/content/digital_paintings/wip/redemption/redemption_03c_coloringwip.jpg
Whoa, hehe 2D ppls are brutal :D *fear* I think you are getting all the crits you need already, this is just really encouragement :) I saw something in the starting sketch which was a sorta I dunno, lack of complete overblown dynamism (is dynamism a word? werd), which I actually kinda liked. Like a brooding or something. It's still present and gives a cool feel and depth to the character, least from where I'm standing.
I like the style a lot, keep it up :) I don't spose you've thrown together any character model prints to date? :P Those would be interestin to see...
Cheers!

I always have the trouble with the eyes, but I think it's that they usually go downwards at the outer side of them. And you are making the typical slant eye's, very beautiful, but tough to get the slope right. You have the lower eyelid slanting down but the upper goes up still. Blah-blah, you get my point...:D
I'm liking it, this 'll be cool.

thanks for all your help and inputs. this is a very important piece to me as methioned earlier, so i give my best to get it right. and, work kept me so busy, finally made it to paint a few hours today.
here's a little update, corrected the face, painted the makeup, darker, a bit more goth. corrected the centerline of the face, opened her lips, hope expression is better now. this is NOT a new layout, its just a closeup composition of the details i worked on.
i also overpainted the beast (hehe sum fur for squib), i like the sketched new beast a bit better now.
well, 1 step forwards at least but still in the beginning. any cc&c most welcome. what you guys and gals think?

I'd be worried about the pose a bit, of the lady. It seems a little less elegant then expected, allthough very expressive. Overdoing the hope maybe? Dunno...:)

Very nice texturing on the skin. Lovely work on that. Just one critz, i'm a bit confuse about her body gesture. It's looking a bit front view, because of the breast area, but the rest seems like a 3 quater view. So just watch out on that. Other than that, everything else is your style. Good choice on the beast's colour. Can't wait to see more bro

Maybe what your unhappy with is the composition. It is a little bit boring. Maybe if you had done it with the camera up a little more and angled down, it would sort of show the scene from the point of view of those little angel statues. I dunno, I'm not realy good at composition myself, it's just a suggestion.

sylanya: i agree 100% here's thumbnail i made, increased the gate and walls in the bg and shrinked the moon. this is where i restart the piece now. :p lol, lost patience with the former composition bt still. the low angle helps the feel of height on the monumental garden of doom. i will keep it that low cuz if i dont i loos the feel for intimacy of the scene

Very nice, looks much more menacing now. Only crit would be to be careful with the lighting because the moon is behind everyone, and unless there is another light source somewhere else they wouldn't be so illuminated.
