View Full Version : DF help with some teething queries
boomji 05-29-2005, 08:51 PM hi,
is the use of a wacom tablet more conductive/productive in df.
it's not fun in afx so before i baught one for home i'd rather confirm.
also can you guys suggest a dual monitor support card...not in any professional capacity since this is to play around with DF at home. i'm thinking of MSI GeForce FX 5200 VTD128 but i'd appreciate your inputs.
one more ;) .
do i have to get into scripting to assign a short cut for my viewport layouts... Is there is no customizing/assigning shortcuts ???...the help does not show me any.I'd like to have as much screen estate as possible and everything else on right click.
thanks

Some artists prefer the wacom to the mouse... I personally prefer the mouse in DF, with all the right, left, middle clicking that goes on. Now in certain instances with a pile of paint work, then yes, i prefer the tablet, but on a day to day basis, i use the mouse.
Any dual card should work fine. I have worked with both Nvidia and ATI and both have issues at one time or another. Mostly to deal with unstandard ways of "speeding" up the drivers. I've had my wacom do some pretty bizarre things over certain drivers and dual monitors.
As for saving the layout of DF, just set it up the way you want on dual screens, and then in prefs, use the "grab program layout" and you're all done.

thanks jk2k,
About the layoput's,I meant the 3-4 kind's of split views we have in DF in the tool bars...it would be faster for me to have to press a button to go from single view to 2(not dual monitor) or something like that instead of reaching for the tool bar all the time.
i completely forgot about the middle mouse issue with the pen...doh. :)
So i guess i'll need to assign the space bar to pan and the up/down arrow keys to zoom in/out...again would this be a no,no ???
since DF5 is just around would it help much if i gave a suggestion list or feature request to eyeon at this stage.
thanks a lot jay.

The newer wacom's have a dual switch pen, so you do have middle mouse support. By holding the pen switch designated MMB, and then dragging left/right on the tablet you can zoom. However, I just personally find it akward to use when switching between middle and right click, I'm still faster with a mouse ;)
Some of the artists I work with here have moved the toolbars from the top of Fusion to the bottom, below the timeline. It's less up/down movment when grabbing tools or switching the view layout. I personally just grab the devider bar between the views and slide it over when I want to change between 1 and 2 views. Again, as is with most things in DF there are multiple ways of acheiving the same result.
I know that in FU5, there is now customizable keyboard support, and hotkeys. How many are tied into the view i still do not know. You can definitely make the suggestion to eyeon, as now is the time to get things implemented before FU5 releases.
