hello everyone.

i have a really HUGE problem. i have to UV unfold this mesh (itīs from a cup) to place my mapping correctly onto the mesh without distortion. the unfoldable mesh should look similar to the lower 2d image. i have tried so many things and there seems no solution. ok, im definitly not a uv master but i wonder if this mesh can correctly be mapped. is this possible in modo and if not what software is able to do that??

thx a lot for helpinghttp://www.chriskunz.com/image%20upload/uv-unfolding-how.jpg

It's impossible to get a completely distortion free UV map when the polygon is anything but a perfect square.

Having said that, you can get pretty damn close with enough effort. Sometimes you need to break it up into a few projections to cut down on the distortion.
Don't forget that different renderers treat UV distortion differently, some better than others. For example, Mental Ray makes a pretty good go of it, whereas Mayas native renderer is absolutely terrible and will highlight every damn squish and tug.

UV mapping is a very simple process, it's just dull. Modo should handle it fine. I'd wager you haven't spent enough time kneeding the UVs around.
