I am trying to figure out the fastest way to create vector shapes in CS2. There is a bunch of shapes I use all the time I would make them into brushes but there not vectors so I have to decide on the shape and thats that. What I was hoping is I could scan a image convert it to a path and then a shape but not sure.

You can do this in Illustrator no problem and then copy paste them PS. CS2 retains the vector info from Illustrator.

From the adobe site
Smart Objects

Perform nondestructive scaling, rotating, and warping of raster and vector graphics with Smart Objects. Even preserve the editability of high-resolution vector data from Adobe Illustrator software.

Paths, with them you can create any shape you want.

He's trying to make them easily reuseable, like a symbol from the symbol library in Illustrator

You could create a custom brush out of it, don't know if PS treats it as vector then.
