View Full Version : Painter 9 Animation Problems
gonzothesadclown 05-28-2005, 06:32 PM Hi there!
I am trying to do a very minimalistic tracing animation of a face with Painter 9 at the moment.
I used a face i filmed as the movie clone source and I want the face to consist only of black (out)lines and a white filling.
So now to my questions:
? How can I use the ear or the nose I painted in the last frame in the next frame so I donīt have have to paint it twice or more when itīs not moving?
? How can I change the "canvas" background from white to transparent because I want to mix the animated face with an animated background in afterFx? (BtW what, at all, is the sense of a non-transparent animation tracing paper?)
? How can i change the "Tracing Paper" opacity, so that the clone movie doesn`t look so light and blurish?
? And last: When the answer to most question is negative, what program would you choose to do such an animation?
Thanks a lot and sorry for my bad english,
gonzo

Hi gonzo,
One thing I am able to tell you is that Painter's Canvas is always opaque. Closing the Canvas' Eye icon only hides it but it still remains opaque.
I've only used Painter's Movie feature for a few simple things, and not for a long time, so I'm sorry to say I can't answer your other questions (wish I could!).
There are a few people on the Painter list at Topica.com who use this feature fairly often and seem to know the ins and outs. In particular, Jeremy Sutton seems to know quite a bit. You might post your questions there, and also send an e-mail to Jeremy. He's been teaching Painter, writing Painter books for years, and currently has a new book and some DVD's. He's an exceptionally nice guy, too. You'll find the contact information on his website at (click the Contact link at the top of the page):

The Painter list url is:

Why don't you try using AE and fidling wround the levels, threshhold, find edges filters for a start?
So now to my questions:

I havent used this feature since v7, but in the tuts, there is a chapter that mentions that you create a script ( you can also assign a key shortcut) where you copy all the image and paste it in the next frame.
? How can I change the "canvas" background from white to transparent because I want to mix the animated face with an animated background in afterFx? (BtW what, at all, is the sense of a non-transparent animation tracing paper?)
Export as gif, or add a green bg and key it in AE
? How can i change the "Tracing Paper" opacity, so that the clone movie doesn`t look so light and blurish?
Toggle on/off

AE, Mirage, and in Mac synthetic studio.
