View Full Version : brainbugz 1.0 - behavioural animation 4 particles
artifish 10-14-2002, 01:49 PM Hi,
I just released "brainbugz" to the public. It's an addon to Maya's dynamics engine that enables you to use behavioural animation techniques on particles. It certainly is nowhere near Massive but with some tweaking you can achieve some pretty cool results. Well, decide for yourself - I put quite a lot of effort into it, so some feedback (critics, bug reports, demo animations, whatever)on any aspect (ease of use, installation, docs etc.) would be really nice.
More information, a quick look at the docs, example animations, link to the downloadable version at highend3d on my homepage:

a quick note: this is for maya 4.0 nt, 4.5 and linux versions will be available as soon as I get the access to them
cheers, carsten

Can't wait for the 4.5 version. Announce when it's ready and I'll give it a go! Looks intriguing.
Thanks for putting all of the hard work into it. It's a benefit to the Maya community.

Thanks :-) Glad you like it!
The reason why brainbugz is free is : I'd really like to get a studio
position (which are quite scarce over here in Germany), so I thought the best way to get my name and work known is to distribute it for free and hope the ones who use it read the disclaimer and give me feedback on how they used it. ( Hope to spice up my resume with, "studio x" used my tool in "project y" kind of statements ). As I am no artist, I see this as an interactive demo reel thing - curious to see if it works out as intended...
ACFred: I'll give you a shout when the 4.5 version is out
cheers, carsten

Yay! I'll give it a try over the weekend. See if I can make 1000 bouncing balls following a path.....
Thanks for getting this compiled for 4.5!

Alexx, thanks for the great free tool. I gave this a go the other day on unversity machines and it worked great, perfect for my needs.... BUT, there is always a but.... are there any plans for a Maya 4.5 Mac release? I use Maya on the Mac predominately and I really need a crowd solution that works there, or does this work there already?
Thanks agian,
Sam Clark

well, to get this plugin work on a Mac, it's got to be recompiled for that os (the same for linux) ... I don't have a Mac and especially no Mac with Maya and a C++ compiler at my disposal and I don't know anyone who has, so a Mac version is kind of unlikely at the moment. sorry, I can't give you a better answer...
For that, I'd need a contact which I could trust and who is willing to recompile everything for every new release and test the software so I could be sure everything runs fine prior to making it available to the public.

you should unhide the zero value columns,by default, maya hides the zero columns.
