the sketch looks great, you should color this one. My only comment is the swords handle almost half the length of the blade, but oh well, its art:)

Color it! :bounce: :bounce:
Great sketch is right. But, I have to agree the handle is way too long for a one handed sword, which is what it appears to be due to the shield on the other arm. If the shield were gone the handle would be a good length for a 2 handed sword. But as it is it looks a little off.
Other than that, it looks great!

awesome sketch!! would love to see where this goes :D
i like the sword handle actually, it's already such a dramatic, heroic, masculine picture that i didnt notice the larger than life sword handle until i scrolled down and read comments. :) his muscles are larger than life too, so in a way, it all fits together into the style..

YEap...i think the body justifies the scale of the sword handle.....just look at Conan's sword (it has a name but ive forgotten). Although he is carrying around with him a shield, but the extra length of the handle helps when he lose the shield in battle and finally holds the sword with the both of his hand to annihilate his foes!
I think its great!
color it! :bounce: :bounce:

I hope if you go ahead and color it, that you give him more room - his sword and wings are being crunched in by the small format. I think that works against the heroism of it. I like where your'e going - I just think it needs more space around it.

That's a great sketch, but the handle is too big. And one more thing I've noticed - the ornement on the sword looks like a plant - literally. It looks as if he was holding a cabbage or sth :)

Heh, cabbage.
I dunno, I like the sword handle being long. Maybe it's all the samurai books & comics I've read, but there was so much talk about a sword having good balance. I think the long handle is a good counterweight to the large blade. Also, the samurai's sword guards could have all manner of engravings on them -- I've seen everything from tigers to lotus blossoms. Maybe this angel really likes cabbage. :)
Only thing I'd crit is the expression on his face. If he's charging into battle I'd tilt his head forward and give him a badass snarl. Right now it looks like he's offering his chest as a target (is he?). Nice dynamic pose. There's a stray bulge just below the deltoid muscle, but otherwise you've done good work on the anatomy.
I've gotta start looking at clouds more often.

I concur!
Lovely concept & everything. I'd change that bulge that Chris mentioned and also the shield, it seems to me that an angel would not carry such a viking type of shield- he would probably carry something more art deco or elvish.
Does this make sense??
I like the pose and the line art so far, you are definitely on the right track. Keep on going!

I like the initial pose. It has own meaning to it. You said you saw in the clouds paint as clouds that would be a cool Idea. No Crits from me yet it's still to early to judge the piece.
I can't wait to see some more progress come out of this piece, will be dropping by...Holla!:scream:
