I have an animation where a character uses the morpher modifier to change between facial expressions. Everything looks excellent in the view...but when i render, the changes that the morpher modifier has made to the character don't seem to be showing. Why is this and can i get it to show in the renderer? thanks

right click the morpher modifer and check its not flagged with "off in renderer"

I had something like that a couple of years back when I'd set the viewport iterations and the render iterations to different numbers in the meshsmooth modifier (above the morpher in the stack). Although the model was smoothed more in the renders, the morphs didn't update. Turning off the render values in the meshsmooth and turning up the viewport iterations seemed to solve it. That was in max 5, don't know if it's still like that.

Might not be the problem you're having though.

In Max 5 and I think 6 there was an update problem with MeshSmooth where it would show in the view port but wouldn't render correctly. I think what would happen though is the mesh would tesselate correctly but it wouldn't move if it was deformed at the vertex level.

I don't know if that is any help to you. Only way to correct it was to delete the MS modifier and replace it. I created a script that would do that to whole scenes at once.
