I don't know if any of you have seen the new animated Jonah but the water/oceans look amazing. I was wondering if anyone knew how to get similar effects in Maya whether tuts MEL script or otherwise.

Thanks,
Jer

Check out the new ocean shader/object in 4.5 unlimited. It is part of the fluids system.

but if you dont have Maya 4.5, check out the tutorials linked on the front page of www.CGChannel.com... somewhere towards the bottom... here's a link (http://www.cmistudios.com/lessons/oceanTut/index.htm)

How flexible is that shader in unlimited? Do you get to control the spray from the waves and how rough the waves are? My other question, is how fast does it render? And all the other fluid fx for that matter?

Oh, I forgot something else. There is a plugin called Waterwaves on highend3d.com. It is free and runs on maya 3 and 4(not 4.5 though).

http://www.highend3d.com/files/dl.3d?group=mayaplugins&file_loc=waterwaves1-v1.5-.5.zip&file_id=1108

Also the guys home page for it:
