Illustrator CS2 has a new live trace tool that traces over lined art and turns them to vector art. Can I use that type of file in Painter? I dont have AICS2 so have no idea if the file is compatbile with Painter.

I open Illustrator files in Photoshop, save the file at the same size and res as my Painter file and then open the .psd file in Painter and then copy and paste it the layer into my Painter file as a new layer.

I *have* copied Illustrator shapes and pasted into Painter, but the sizing is funky. It's always teensy and placed somewhere off the canvas, as well. Necessitates some hunting and upsizing.

I personally prefer the step of going to Photoshop, as I like to be able to get the sizing and other transforming done with Pshop's more precise tools.

At any rate, AICS2's trace tool to vector should work fine, unless you have some use in mind that I'm not familiar with. (I have my own workflow that may not be what you'd prefer to do.)

Are you saying that you were able to opening up paths in Painter and not have to adjust the size?????? Because I File<Acquire<Illustrator this path into Painter and I made sure that the canvas in Painter was the same size and res as the path files. The path file was still small and I had to scale the paths back up to size. The cut and paste route does the same as well

No I can't directly import Illustrator into Painter without the size/scale problem. I can control the size/scale by bringing Illustrator to Photoshop and then opening the Photoshop file in Painter and then copying and pasting. It doesn't preserve the 'vectorness' of the art, but for my purposes, that's fine.
