View Full Version : Memory Error
spaeth1 05-26-2005, 07:43 PM I keep getting this memory error and the composition window goes black,
"After Effects Error: Photoshop file format error out of memory (-108) (45 35)"
I am working on a Mac G4 1 gig memory.
So far I have 50 compositions and have been doing serious amouts of motion sketch (thousands of key frames) Can all of this be leading to the memory problem? why does it say photoshop error?
Thanks,

It's possible your memory is in short supply due to what you have been doing but I think your image file is simply damaged - AE will still import and PS might even open it without any visible artifacts. Simply open it in PS and re-save it using "Save as...". BTW, I would try to split your project to minimize potential memory errors and slowdown. 50 comps is a lot and even if not opened they consume resources 'cos AE keeps looking after them. You can always import all partial projects into one big rendering-project once all the work is done...

Actually its only one composition with 50 layers (all listed in the project window) Do you think this needs be split up ? Im working with one video layer all the others are images..bmp, png, gif anf jpg

Just an idea here.
Some apps gets messed up if cmyk-color files are imported. Could be worth checking out...

tuomok is wright, check if your photoshop layers aren't 16bit/B&W/CMYK or something else

error doesn't seem to be caused by file type. All are 8 bit, RGB.
Does AE have any other restricitions for images

You can try to "file > remove unused material" from the project and after that try to locate the problematic image by clicking on then one by one from the project window. If I recall correctly I have sometimes found the reason for similar errors that way: AE pop's up the error message when the troubling item is selected (and when it actually refreshes the thumbnail icon in the project window).
From there on it would be simplier to locate the problem...
Once again, not sure will it help, but is worth the shot anyway.

Nabbed him. thanks for the help. I think I got it. Was one jpeg layer would give me the error when toggled on and off. I resaved in Photoshop and seems to work now.
