Hi There

This is not one of those "let's compair" threads. It's just that I've never worked with a 3rd party render engine and would like to know a little more on the following:

1. Does one trigger the rendering from within C4D?
2. If one doesn't trigger it from within C4D, what would be the implications 3rd party render engines would have on
a. C4D 3rd party plug-ins like Shave and simulation stuff like Clothilde?
b. Does one have to setup lights and stuff again in the render engine?
3. If one triggers the rendering from within C4D, does it work seamlessly like Maya's built-in hardware renderer?

If anyone could give some info on this, it would be much appreciated.

Thanx

1. yes. you set the render settings within C4D, hit render within C4D and the C4D scene file is translated and sent to the external renderer. It will run as a separate executable from C4D, but the bridge to the renderer will handle scene data transport between C4D and the external renderer (see Maxwell for example).

2.if the renderer isn't triggered from within C4D for some reason (i.e. lousy integration) it would save a file that the standalone renderer can use to render via command line or its own GUI/batch render function.

a) Clothilde, TP and so on yes, because they are geometry based. Shave, Stormtracer and so on no, because they are made specifically for C4D's renderer. Shave with geometry hair would probably work.

b) No. But you would have to adjust your scene lighting and material settings for the renderer, as every render engine behaves a little differently.

3. If its an external renderer, it will pop up its own picture viewer. If its fully integrated into C4D, it might be able to render straight into the viewport and so on.
